I wrote my senator. Couple of people here did the same thing. Its an amendment to LB 958, bringing California-ish gun laws to the heartland. Here are some of the changes:
(4)(a) General characteristics of an assault weapon are
9 as follows:
10 (i) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the
11 capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the
12 following:
13 (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath
14 the action of the weapon;
15 (B) A thumbhole stock;
16 (C) A folding or telescoping stock;
17 (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher;
18 (E) A flash suppressor; and
19 (F) A forward pistol grip;
20 (ii) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed
21 magazine with the capacity to accept more than ten rounds; and
22 (iii) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an
23 overall length of less than thirty inches.
24 (b) An antique or collectible weapon that has its firing
25 pin removed is not an assault weapon.

I really hope this does not pass.

I really hope this does not pass.

I really don't see this passing in Nebraska.
Ernie Chambers is probably working feverishly behind the scenes, if he's still breathing.
Overall Nebraskan's have too much commonsense for this worthless bill to become law.

So i just got my first ar-15 and what would happen if this passed do i have to get rid of it or gun dealers just cant sell them anymore?

We don't know yet, S&W King. The AWB Commission AM1964 would create would be heavily stacked with anti-gunners who aren't even elected to the positions... they are all appointees and thus have no accountability.

Call and write as many senators as you can. More info here: www.ccwne.com.

Make sure you write your senator...I did, and got a "trust us, we know what's best" response from mine (McGill - she was one that voted to advance it to the full legislature). You can bet I'll be working to make sure she doesn't get reelected.

Done

I've written several E-mails, and when I didn't get a response from MY Senator (I got a prompt one from Ashford's office, agreeing to disagree), I called his office. His secretary assured me he was against it.......

Feet, fire, some assembly required.

Wow, if I'm reading the info that kir_kenix posted correctly, it looks like this could be used to ban a TON of guns, not just the usual suspects (AR's, AK's, etc). the worst part is this:
10 (i) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the
11 capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the
12 following:
.
.
.15 (B) A thumbhole stock;

That would ban the vast majority of semi-autos, hunting and target included, simply by putting on a nice comfortable (sorry, I mean horribly EVIL :barf:) thumbhol stock.I hope you guys kill this load of poo.Good luck.

My folks live in Nebraska. I will call them in the morning to tell them about this. I'm not sure what the city folk are like there, but I know a lot of farmers and country people there that won't buy into this.

Ernie Chambers- my dad met and talked to him once. He said he had some good ideas on a couple things (My dad thinks that the big corporations are ruining farming), but the more he heard about him he realized he's a total nut job.

If they can pass this sort of thing in Nebraska, they'll be able to pass it anywhere.

I don't think this has a whole lot to do with Ernie Chambers (he's a phycho, for those of you who don't know...he once tried to sue God). It comes from district 20, which is a really rich, white district in Omaha. I believe Brad Ashford is the senator, but I am not 100% sure that he is.

We are trying to get more active on this subject. If somebody more knowledgable then me would put together a list of chairpersons on the commitee (and their contact info) it would really help us along. I think the only way to fight this is by informing our senators that will vote on this subject that we whole heartedly oppose it.

This is just the first step in Nebraska, more are sure to follow if this passes.

It is out of committee already. However, the original LB 958 that the committee heard and citizens spoke about, was gutted and replaced with AM 1964.

The judiciary committee passed it 6-0, with 2 senators abstaining.

I just recieved a response from my senator.
Jon,

I oppose LB 958. Thanks for your email, and please let me know if you
have any other questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Arnie Stuthman
Senator, District 22

Short and sweet. Thats all I needed to know. I've never been too involved in state politics before, but this is deffinetley going to get me to pay better attention to whats going on in Nebraska.

Stuthman is anti-ccw and told me to my face, less than 6 months ago, that CCW is dangerous and that we need metal detectors in bars and courthouses because of it.

I'm not calling you a liar, kir_kenix, I'm just saying be very careful with what Stuthman tells you.
