I want to buy a .45 Auto that is reliable right out of the box. Under $1000.
I am considering Kimber, Sig and others.
This is for the range and maybe to carry once in a while.
What do you recommend?

Thanks

Rich

If primarily a range gun - I would recommend something all steel. Unless you won't be shooting it a ton.....then go with alloy or steel. For shooters, I like 1911's.

Take a look at these:
1. S&W - Feels the best in my hand - fit and finish is superb.
2. Colt - All steel - great for resale & you can brag that its "a Colt."
3. STI - look at the new Spartan model for a budget STI. Haven't held one.

Kimber or Sig would be fine too.

unless you are --very--comfortable carrying cocked&locked, buy the sig da/sa model w/ a decocker. they are very accurate, top of the line. You might even consider a P239 in 40......i have shot IDPA w/ mine- it is that accurate. good luck

Kimber TLE, $800-850.

Full size, all steel, night sights, front strap checkering. Be sure to get one with internal extractor. Best deal in 1911's, IMHO.

Once you start shooting it, you will want to carry it primarily.

Springfield XD 45 compact. Very accurate...Concealable with short magazine...High capacity with long mag. Built like a bank vault and under $550. Doesn't get any better than that

I would also go with the Kimber Pro Carry, series l if you can find a used one. I hate the firing pin safety on the series ll !!!!

If I bought a pistol in the $1000 range and it wasn't reliable right out of the box, I'd put it back in the box and send it to the manufacturer!

The budget is $1000, buy something nice. Everyone needs a barbecue gun!The Glocks/XDs/Taurus/S&W guns in the $500 range are good shooters, but don't have the pride of ownership factor going for them.
