I've got a p226. Love it. Finally decided to CCW more often; and I need not tell anyone here the 226 is not an everyday kinda CCW pistol. :)

So. I don't want another Sig. I am a lefty, and frankly tired of reaching over oddly to hit the slide release :banghead:. It's fine for the range but not that confidence inspiring for defensive carry. Looking at a rather short list of pistols i can use "fully" as a left...i've narrowed it down.....

P2000 or the M&P compact. (Both in .40. )

It's between those 2. I held the both the P2000 and the P2000SK; SK was too small, even for my smaller hands. P2000 felt great.
Fired the M&P compact today, and it felt great too. I haven't been able to find anywhere to get my hands on a p2000 to fire. (i've fired the USP before and know how great H&K's are)

any input (and as a side note, a recomendation on a lefty IWB for either of those would be appreciated as well!)

PS....I'll spend the extra $ if needed, but for me to pay nearly double there better be a darn fine reason :) (plus there is a $50 rebate and 2 free mags with the M&P right now)

An M&P45 is my next purchase - I'm pretty high on the M&P line, and considered an HK45 (or USP version), too. Not exactly the same situation, but close.

Having said that, I'm not sure I'm going to be much help. My deciding factors were cost - a CCW gun gets banged up, and is at least somewhat exposed to being stolen - espeically in Ohio I have to leave CCW piece in the car often (I too am willing to spend it if it make sense - I've got close to 9 bills in a scandium snub with a laser), S&W is American made, S&W better customer support, S&W better/more available aftermarket gear - holsters, etc. (not sure on this one, but it seems like it).

Notice everything is pro-M&P, and not really anti-HK. I think HKs are great, and will probably own one someday, but for my next carry piece, I've concluded M&P for me (I think, I was about to post to learn of others' carry experience with it).

Good luck.

I hav'nt heard any better reason than that.
I'd also look at a CZ85

I’m also a lefty. Release the slide and magazine with your trigger finger. It’s as fast as a righty using the thumb and you don’t have to shift your grip.

Update

Got the M&P compact in .40 !!! also ordered Ameriglo BT Operator sights (yellow/green). Laser grip is up next (once my pigy bank is full again :) )

Now all i need is a left IWB holster and I am set. Any suggestions?

PS -

I paid only $499 + tax for the pistol (new). Then throw in the $50 rebate + 2 free mags (for a grand total of 4), AND the 25% off coupon for the Ameriglo sights....this whole package only cost me $584 for everything out the door :what: :)

I've found some Krammer IWB that will fit. anyone have experience with them? are they comfy?
