Last year I picked up a NEF .410 bore shotgun that is quite unusual and I can find very little info on it. Sorry I don't have a camera so I will have to describe it as best I can.

It is marked New England Firearms, looks like it is based on a standard NEF pardner single shot break open with exposed hammer, blue finish and tiger striped case hardened receiver. However gun appears to be factory made to be as short as legally possible. Does not appear to be a home done conversion and although it looks illegal as hell, I did buy it with paperwork from a FFL dealer and while it is shorter than a Chipmunk 22 rifle it appears to have a long enough barrel and overall length to be legal. Local range did frown on me bringing it to shoot a couple of times though, it does draw some attention.

Gun has what seems to be 18" barrel which is quite thick but taper slightly at end. Barrel is actually rifled for some reason with what looks a lot like Marlins microgroove rifling but it is not a slug gun by any means!

Buttstock is highly abbreviated wood at end to a sort of 'whippit" configuration but is not a true pistol grip or a stock or folding stock like a NEF tamer. Has sling studs too.

Gun has bead sight and is chambered for 3" shells, patterns quite well once you get used to pointing and indexing it. Gun will chamber a 45LC round but since gun is not marked as being able to fire them I did not.

Dealer I bought gun from knew little of it, claims they are popular in the south, kind of a stick it under your truck seat and use it to shoot snakes gun he said.

NEF website has no info on them. I really like this gun and the way it looks even though it's size and single shot capacity make it not very versitile.

I once saw a .410 double done up by FIE(remember them?) this way, I should have bought it. Any info anyone has on these guns,if you own one in another gauge, where to get another one, would be appreciated.
