Received the new Guns n Ammo today, New for 2004 issue. Beretta has announced a new version of the 92. Dubbed the 92 Steel, is has a Vertec frame(stainless steel), Brigadier slide(stainless steel), and frame mounted safety(no decocker). Drooooolll. This is something I have been wishing for. Can't wait, may replace my Hi Power.

Given the current proclivity for manufacturers to make 1911 clones, I wouldn't be suprised if one did come out of Beretta.

Hmm...

Now here is a question. Since it is a frame mounted safety with out decocker, can it be carried cocked & locked, like the CZ75?

If so, that would be pretty darn cool. I still don't own a 9mm, and that might be kind of fun. I've always liked the Berettas I've used, but I despise double action triggers, and safety levers that work the opposite way of how I've trained myself on my serious guns.

the Taurus 92 is a copy of the early Berettas and features the same cocked and locked frame mounted safety. don't get me wrong, if it helps put Taurus out of the autoloader market i'm all for it but it doesn't sound like anything people can't get already and for $100+ cheaper.

they should go the extra mile and redesign it for .45ACP
the P-38 was available commercially in .45ACP shortly before the war, so it doesn't look like theres a technical reason why not.

Wait...hold up a second....

[rummage] ...grumble, no that's my water filter...hmm...[rummaging]...ahhh yes...

Here it is.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWW!!!!!! :D :D

Wait...no carbon fiber grips for them :(

:)

I never liked the standard Beretta frame, but the Vertec looks just about perfect. I hope these get introduced in some sort of timely fashion, not the industry standard of two years from announcment.

Where's my G-SD? California :cuss:

Chuck, saw you edited your post....this matches the description of Jeff OTMG's photo of the steel Vertec he saw at SHOT

Any pictures? I may swing by the store tonight.

Skunk,
Yeah, skimmed the article and posted, should have paid better attention the first time. That's the first pic I've seen, magazine article didn't show the new model. Looks cool. The article states it will replace the Billenium. That was a pretty high end pistol, wasn't it? Wonder where the Vertec Steel will come in price wise?

Wild guess: $1100. Billenium was $1200-ish, IIRC and had carbon fiber grips, grip checkering and scalloped serrations on the slide. And the cavedude.

What else is new from Beretta?

Finally, a safety where it's supposed to be! Hooray!

Hmmm . . . there's a weight limit for IDPA, and the Billennium didn't make it - IIRC it was a couple of ounces over. (And it just LOOKED gaudy - like I'd expect a pimp's gun to look.)

I wonder if Beretta tooled the new version to "make weight" . . .
