Tranfer Fees in Memphis are between $25-$150 dollars at stores. The normal price is about $50.
The low-end place takes their time getting it done. I witnessed a guy complaining, he had to wait 4 days AFTER the gun was delivered because they were "real busy." (I guess it's possible BUT I've never seen more than 5 people in there at a time.)
The majority charge $50 for a transfer. You'll get it the same day or the next depending on the time it gets delivered to them. They'll call and let you know when it arrives there. No big deal.
The high-end store really doesn't want to do it. I understand that somewhat because they ARE real busy. (As in, be prepared to wait on a Saturday for an available salesperson!) Plus, they probably have the same gun you just bought online (if it's NIB) for "give OR take" about $30. (I have bought a couple guns there for less EVEN with tax for cheaper than online.) My last purchase they
couldn't match the online price for it BUT they came within $10. Factor-in a median $50 transfer vs. tax and it costs me about $50 more than online BUT I got to get it right that minute and handle it before purchase.
Hope that helps you a little. There are some individuals that have FFLs too. I don't know what they charge and I don't use the big-box stores for transfers either.
