James here signing on. Great site. I love to hunt and enjoy plinking whenever I can. Currently own a .303 Enfield, looking to add an SKS as well as my ol man's FN-FAL to my collection as soon as I get my restricted weapon certification.

That is all.

Hello

New here, and glad to keep learning, always. I have a small group of guns, nothing like what some have, but I'm much more interested in knowing as much as possible about the few I do have than getting a collection going. (I have too many hobbies as it is... heh.) Thanks for having me.

Thanks for the welcome!

I live near the mountains now and enjoy shooting quite a bit. And I enjoy reading all the great stuff on this site. Before I moved out West...my very first firearm was an M1 Carbine I got as a gift from my Dad when I was 12. I had every clip I owned loaded for my first time at the range back in CT. I had 2 or 3, 30 round banana clips, about 6, 15 round clips and I think I tossed out the 5 round clips. 5 rounds...I mean, come on. When the whistle blew I fired, and fired and fired! My target was ripping, the dirt was flying and guy to the right of my Dad was taking spent shells in the head. At the end of my "fire fight" my 30 cal was smoking and I was smiling and everyone at the range was staring. But I didn't care...I was reloading!!! I now own a .22 S&W 317, .22 Ruger 10/22, 9mm Stoeger Cougar, .357 Ruger Police Service Six, 410ga Xcel (circa 1920), 12ga Mossberg 500, and a Mosin Nagant 91/30.
And I'm looking to add 1 or 2 more to my random collection. -Peace-

Hey Scratchy- I live in the Boulder area. We have a nice place to shoot about 8 miles from my house in the mountains. I think it's BLM land. Anyway it's legal to shoot there. No proper benches or target stands, but it's free. Really an awesome place. 'Cause there's no supervision, there's always one loaded on the hip. Low voulme on the weekdays. I'm a M-F shooter. Do you live in CO? Great Place! Thanks for the reply.

Hello,
I'm jfountain2. I live in Memphis but I am originally from Louisiana. I am into hunting, photography, and guitars. My gun of choice is my Marlin 336W 30-30.

Hello, hello. My name is Mike. I have had the opportunity to grow up in the country in Central NY where hunting and plinking is a way of life. I started with BB's, and graduated from .22's to .410 to 12ga, all the way up to long range high power rifles. I now have my own family and am teaching my 7 year old the way of shooting sports and hunting. He is becoming almost as obsessed as I am. He sleeps in his full camo at times! In any event, I am a turkey hunter first and foremost. Calling them in is an art and there is no better reward out there than seeing an animal come right to you because of your skill. That is hunting. I also hunt small game and deer. I own several rifles and shotguns, my favorite being my new Mossberg 4X4 gray laminate stock in .270. I was using 130 grain core-lokt bullets and grouping within 1/2" at 150 yards from a bench. Awesome. Chat with me about anything guns, fishing or hunting!

Hello from Dustin Hamilton:)

Hello members of THR.org.

Im Otto from Ontario, Canada. Southwestern region. Some of you are probably familiar with the restrictions that I have in the area that I live in. Our handguns are not allowed anywhere but our own property and the range, and our shotguns and rifles have to be registered.

Im a new gun owner. To obtain firearms here I have had to attend a few courses and communicate with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Royal Canadain Mounted Police for authorization.

Despite all these restrictions I am still interested in firearms. We are a dying breed in this area.

I have a particular affinity to lever action firearms. I would love to get my hands on a break action revolver.

I am in the process of getting my first gun, .22 Marlin 39a lever action. Vintage 1970's I think with a dark cherry color wood. Shortly after that I need a shotgun to hunt turkeys, birds and deer. I am looking at the Mossberg 500 for this. My third gun will come shortly after that which will be a handgun, a Glock 17 if all goes to plan.

Thanks for reading.
-Otto

After many years away from doing anything gun related, I'm just getting back into it. As a teen I had a number of rifles and a few revolvers, including a S&W 19 that I loved. I even got into reloading. Lost interest and slowly sold off my guns, especially when I got married. My wife had had some bad experiences with firearms and was very scared of them. So I sold all except a Ruger 10/22 which I had traded my reloading gear for. Sat in its box, unfired, for years.

With a busy life, gun-shy wife, and bad eyes, I assumed I'd never really shoot again. Then I just got the itch one day and went out shooting my 10/22. Then my 10-year-old daughter put a bug in my ear to go shoot pellet guns. My wife signed off (to my surprise), we bought a kid-sized pellet gun, and have had a lot of fun with it.

I also started thinking more about personal defense, after reading about the loosening of CCW restrictions. At first I found the idea a little shocking. I remember going to Arizona about that time and seeing someone in Bisbee carrying uncovered, and being very uncomfortable with it. (Still not sold on open-carry.) But I'm seriously considering it. I recently bought a Kahr CW9, my first auto pistol, and a good CCW weapon, I think. First range day was a little surprising (bucks harder than I expected, and loud), but that day might have been life-changing. I walked straight out and decided: Yeah baby, I want to shoot IDPA!

So next week I'm going to purchase a .22 auto pistol that I can afford to practice a lot with (I'm an awful shot) and then later this year, if luck holds, I'll get a Glock 17 to shoot SSP with. I'll also be attending local IDPA matches, to observe, learn, and hopefully make some new and helpful friends. I've told my wife my intentions, and she seems ok with it. Firearm storage is her only real concern right now. When I get up the guts to explore CCW with her, I'll let you know. (Actually, it seem to me you must have a CCW to shoot IDPA, technically, since you start covered. Technically works for me . . .)

Sorry for the long intro.

Greetings to one and all. My name is Rodger, I am a teacher in rural Alaska. I currently live on the coast of the Bering Sea in a small native Yup'ik Eskimo village. I am an Alaska Native, my ancestry is Athabascan. When I was seven my family moved to Longmont Colorado, a place I still consider to be my home. I came back to Alaska because I wanted to teach to try to give some of the children here the same advantages and opportunities I have had. I have been a shooter all my life and am glad to find forums like this to exchange ideas and information.

You will find that I am usually polite and well-spoken but I don't hesitate to speak my honest mind. I take criticism as well as I give it, it is always welcome. I came to find this forum as I am looking for specific information right now but I'm glad to be here and will try to participate as much in the discussions as my time allows. I am currently teaching full time as well as taking full time classes towards a Masters in Education so I need the days to have 12 more hours in them.

Hello

Originally from Pa but been in Fl since '89 I'm in my early 40's. CWP should be here in a few more weeks and trying to get as much knowledge as possible. This site was recommended to me from a person I bought a pocket holster from off eBay. Great seller also gave me a few must read books on self defense. Only have a couple handguns but nothing to write home about (witness & Derringer) just starting my collection. Its nice to know that the Fl cwp is good in 32 other states just wish SC & MA would fill in the gap for my travels.

Haven't done any hunting since '88 and have also placed that on my agenda for this Dec '08 (Remington 7mm-08) back in Pa. Still have friends and family to go Buck hunting with in Pa. The last buck I got was with a 50cal muzzle loader in '88. Been around guns as a kid because my dad use to have a bunch and always hunted but been out of the loop for sometime.

thanks for a site like this to educate people like myself. I have it set up as my home page so you will see me around often.

Hi, found the forum looking for ccw info, pretty nice community it seems. I did the Army thing a few years ago, now I'm a justice major getting edjimucated.

New member

Just joined THR this A.M. Had looked at this site a few months ago but never thought of joining. My first question was also posted today. I started reloading about a month to 2 months ago because of the cost of factory ammo. My brother-in-law and I do quite a bit of target and trap shooting (no hunting). Combined we have about a dozen different pistols, rifles and shotguns. Therefore the interest in reloading. Being in PA makes it easier to find a range longer than 100 yards. Still, I have to travel about an hour from SE PA to find one. Anti-gun folks are trying to take our 2nd amendment rights by saying that "guns kill people". To them I say, "Put a gun on the table. Walk away a few steps. Tell the gun to go kill someone." The gun won't even get a questionable look on it's muzzle.. People kill people! Duh! Take the guns out of law-abiding citzens hands and you'll create easy targets for criminals. Have the lawmakers(judges) refocus their efforts on stronger penalties for armed crimes with no plea deals and you have made a safer AMERICA. You might tell from my member name where I stand on this issue.

Hello From Houston

I've been around guns all of my life. Used them for hunting, target shooting, and even carried professionally.
I am a great respecter of firearms and what they are capable of.
I am of the opinion that if you're going to carry, then you should be practiced in the use of the firearm that you choose to carry. Once you loose a round, their is simply no calling it back.

In the city where I reside there is a great deal of crime. It has been my own observation that the criminals don't bother with things like concealed carry permits.

A sociopath has no conscience and is capable of acting rather rashly without hesitation. Most criminals are sociopaths and the taking of human life has approached being a sport.
The law abiding citizen, on the other hand, is a person of conscience. The rub comes in when a law abiding citizen is confronted by a sociopath; one hesitates and one acts without hesitation. Hesitation can prove fatal.

I do not relish the idea of harming another human being; however, I also do not relish being hurt by another human being. Self defense is a common law right and those who would restrict my ability to defend myself, I consider to be without understanding or common sense.

Well guess it's my turn lol well i'm 18 years young from a small town in east tennessee called clinton where life is anything but fun haha i work hard and play even harder, i'm an active gun lover and pround nra member well unlike most down here in the south my mother wasn't to fond of her son owning guns (altho i think she knew it was bound to happend) my grandma and grandfather on both sides of the family owned/owns guns and loves them with passion so guess it was a lil bit in my blood haha... well i've always vowed to practice what you preach, my preaching just happened to be that i was the best shot the east of the mississippi haha and i try to be just that ... as good as i can be... i practice my math regularly for accurate range, and calculating drop over yards traveled, and experiment with different loads and find what's best suited for what, and at what range, well anyways i started my collection off well when i was 17 really minus the bb guns and sling shots i have, which can easily be just as dangerous considering some of the bb guns are more powerful than the ol .22 lr sitting in the closet haha well a bolt action marlin .22lr was my first REAL gun and i used it to my advantage making a few bucks shooting against some locals and then when that 7 turned to an 8 and i was finally able to purchase guns i went crazy ... haha i picked up a hi point 9mm carbine, then went bigger to a norinco sks, then a yugo sks, then to a mossberg 500,then to a black powder cattleman .45 revolver, then to another 500 and then an 870, from the 870 to another .22 lr (marlin sem model 995, then to a french mas,and then to a heavy .300 win mag winchester,to a 9mm hi point,to a .45 llama, then a .45 kimber, and as of last sat a .308 and an bushmaster ar-15 and a .38 derringer haha well i've keep them all except the.300 win which i regret having gotten rid of ... but plan on acquiring another one asap i am newly looking for a good comp pistol via .40 cal... other than my obvious gun addiction i love mma (mixed martial arts) ufc style fighting and enjoy unleashing a lil rage in the cage every now and then lol, i also enjoy racing and crusing in my 72 chevelle, i look back on these 18 years almost 19 that have went by and i say to my self... wow i've made a lot of money and wow its all in guns and my car lol ... i'm proud to also say I PAY FOR MY OWN STUFF lol including my car which i was able to by when i was 15 after mowing yards since i was 12 and opening my first bank account when i was 5 years old after winning 100 dollars for selling candy haha well i love to talk so get at me
