Hello all! Welcome back to me!

I joined THR ..... well, I just checked my profile, and it will be exactly 10 years ago this Christmas. Odd that I joined on Christmas day, I don't remember that. But I haven't been an active poster for a long time (although I lurk here fairly regularly).

I'm a long-time firearms owner and staunch 2A supporter. And I'm worried sick about the increasingly loud drumbeat calling for new gun control laws. So I felt the need to re-activate myself here for the mental and emotional support of you like-minded folks.

I have a few handguns, a rifle, a shotgun, and my FL carry permit. Also, I'm feeling a desire lately to buy one or more "assault weapons" just because I can. AR15 style? Mini14? Some other scary-looking black gun? I definitely want something with at least 2 of the cosmetic features that would magically turn it from a plain old garden-variety semi-auto rifle into a dangerous high-powered assault weapon. :D
 
Hi Frank from CT here. Been lurking for a while and decided to join. Have read a lot of informative posts and plan to remain largely in the background.

Recently picked-up my first semi-auto, a Glock 26 with a LaserMax sight. Have the standard Mossy 500 and a Ruger 10/22. Slowly expanding the herd.
Nice to be on board.

Hey guys and gals. This is a first attenpt at one of these forums or anything of the like. I live in N.Ga. and have enjoyed shooting,hunting and fishing most of my life. Just getting back into it after a few years of not being very active in any of my hobbies but im coming back with a vengance. Just bought a glock 30 and am looking forward to you folks helping me to shoot it well. Thanks for having me . Timothy Madison.

Thank you for saving me from the embarrassment of not getting a reply to my introduction thread!

Oh, the horror! LOL.

So far I have enjoyed this community a great deal.

Flintknappers thread on killing feral pigs is one of this site's epic contributions and I have to say I was saddened to reach the end of it's 50+ pages.
He has reinforced everything I have been told and experienced when hunting this vermin and I have learned more than I could have ever hoped.

For the most part I can safely say I don't know much.
I've had a life time around guns BUT, that said, I have never bothered myself to learn about makes, calibers, etc.
I merely used what was on hand and as luck or innate skill would have it I was and am extremely accurate with what ever was dropped into my hands, be it rifle or hand gun.

My father was a marksman of note and as a child he nailed a metal bottle cap to a tree and told us children that we could not handle his guns until we were able to shoot the bottle cap using a very worn air rifle whist sitting on a chair under the rear verandah of our house.
After school it was always a rush to finish homework and rush to the chair first to see if you were able to hit the bottle cap.

The memory never fails to make me smile.

Welcome to thee of the charming accent.

I am using cans and balloons with the 6 and 7 yr old grand daughters, haven't told them about the bottle cap yet. :)

The bottle cap was the first of trials that my father had set for us children.

My very first rifle was a single shot .22 Mossberg (spl?) and my very first kill with it was a rabbit.
I dropped it dead with a single shot and I was very careful to show dad that I put the safely on as I handed it to him so I could retrieve the animal.

Maybe it's out of place and somewhat macabre but he dipped his finger in the blood of the animal and drew lines down my nose and across my cheeks and called me "blooded".
For the first time and only time in his and my life he said he was proud of me.

Those things have a way of staying with you, even as an adult.

I just joined last night I guess in part because of all the current media attention. I am in my early 50s, ex-Navy, avid shooter, own numerous handguns and long guns. I am a deer hunter, outdoorsman, father of two, and a grandfather of one (last April). NRA member, animal lover, bivocational pastor, electrical engineer, and my wife is from Kalfornia. Thanks for letting me join this forum.
 
Too bad you Aussies are so very limited on what you can own now.
Dot Gov is trying to do the same to us now...

New Here

Hi all. Brand new here at the High Road. Retired police officer (1st retirement) and then retired from the Army Guard, counter drug division. I have bought and sold a slew of hand and long guns over the years and still have a gun cabinet and closet full. I enjoy talking - looking - shooting - anything guns.
 
I'm new here (just joined today). I like all guns but especially tactical guns. I own a .22 mag and a 12 gauge and love shootin 'em both. I live in PA. I wanted to join to talk about firearms and reccomendations about firearms.

First Post and a Grendel P-12 Orphan

We were left a Grendel P-12 pistol (as a present...or a curse). Our Grendel P-12 Pistol has a long running history of every 4th of 5th shot of not only clearing the empty shell but also completely throwing out the next full round. The running joke is fire three rounds and hurl the gun at the head of an intruder. When you pull the trigger and get a click (I have now read that dry firing is bad on these), we have learned to drop the clip, set the pistol down (and aimed down range) and look behind where you are standing on the range floor to find the live round. Like many others, we also get frequent stove pipes (one per 11 round clip) and the occasional dog greeting (nose of next bullet to butt of unejected fired round).

Tonight I took it apart (using a pin on an old compass to push out that troublesome barrel pin and a pound of flesh) to clean and the (plastic?) Recoil Spring Guide appears to have had the wider flat end that rests on the back end of the barrel flake off about a 1/16th inch of the end (like it cleaved off). Would that account as to why when I reassembled the pistol I cannot get the Barrel Pin to go back in to complete the assembly? After reading may FAQ sites I did try the pin both directions but no luck. An insight would be greatly appreciated. I sent a note to Kel Tec as the designed/built and buried them. They are closed until Jan 7, 2013 so thought I would check out and see what insight I could gather. From what I have read, it was not expensive and patterns well (I agree with this) but has more negatives than positives. Not my A gun but kind of run to shoot. Thanks
 
Hi, I've been browsing the forum for a while now and thought it was time to meet the guys and gals that make it all work. I really enjoy technical stuff but also like to load my own ammo. Shooting is a blast when it's not so cold to freeze monkey parts! so here I am today, prepping .270 brass for hunting loads. Wish all of you the very best this holiday.

James here; I'm more of a hunting guy than a gun guy. Most of my interest in guns is focused on ones that are good for hunting, but I do have one or two primarily for defense also.
