Since I'm on the Thompson Center soap box this mourning...

Here is yet another lesser expensive MOA certified rifle worth taking a look at.

The Thompson Center Venture.... Price point is less than $400 dealer, so they should be along the lines of the Vanguard, Savage 111.

100% U.S. made.... parts and all!
The mythical 5R rifling graces the barrels which are floated and target crowned.

1" at 100y or less accuracy certified. :)

Should be a winner!:)

:D

probably no 308 because this will likely be another rifle produced in only 1 action size (a la pre-64 winchester, savage 110, etc) and it appears they picked the most popular long action centerfires to test the market... just a guess, but would be my bet.

Absolutely!! Like the Tikka T3 and the Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA, and like the T/C Icon, this rifle comes with a written guarantee of Sub-MOA accuracy. I've been singing it's praises - I think the Venture is probably the best value going in any turnbolt at the moment.

Superb is a pretty strong word.

Indeed it is, and from all appearances, very well deserved by the Venture.

On a side note, Bass Pro has "special purchase" Marlin XL-7s for $299.95 plus tax right now - that's a great deal on a very good rifle as well!

Just curious... what don't you guys like about the Icon?

I'm not waving the T/C flag, and have shied away from all but their coal burners but.....
But LOOK at what the Icon has to offer!

I mean you don't get all those ingredients in 2 of the other brands put together!
Say what you want, I mean that's what we do, but take a honest look at all the attributes of the Icon, lay down the bias stick and be real!

I think I see a Icon in my future....

As for the Warlord... the oh so thought of firm of Remington would lay a golden egg if they ever offered all the items your getting on the T/C. The Warlord is a costly rifle, and to be fair, if any other manufacturer offered all the items the Warlord has, I imagine it would cost the same.

:D

hmmm... why is it every company that starts a buget line rifle, never starts with a short action? why allways 270, 30.06, 7mm, etc.? WHY????(sniffle)

But I digress... a 5r twist, on a rifle under 700 bucks; I gotta see one to believe it, and of course I have to shoot it as well.

Because with a long action you have the most popular big game cartidges around, 270 and 30-06, along with the very popular 7mm Mag and the 300 Mag.

With a short action (as much as I love them) you have the 308 & 243 then..... not much in terms of sales.

If the rifle sells in long action, the short action version will be along presently. Look at the Marlin XL7 & XS7.

or, they may just kep it a long action and chamber short action rounds in it. a short action cartridge will fit and function in a long action receiver. a long action cartridge will not do so in a short action receiver.

You are right, T/C is producing 1 length only, of the Icon action. As the people at T/C told us, they have no known plans(whatever that means) of producing any other length action.

T/C calls this their 'medium length' action....hate to see a magnum length action made by T/C. hehehe

ThisiswhatI'msayin...

I think I see a Icon in my future....

'Cept I already have one. :neener:

i have a shot an icon and they are solid rifles. i am not on board w/ the scope mounting system (my same reason for not having a preference for ruger and being stuck w/ their scope mounting stuff), but if i were in the market for a long action gun, i'd give them a hard look. however, i am only in the market for short actions at the moment...

You know... I'm just not gonna say any more about the Icon.

The rep sat right there and told us that T/C was making only 1 length action, now I'm doing order sheets tonight and notice two different order numbers for Icons... A quick look and there it was, Icon, 30-06, Walnut stock, 24" barrel.

Look closer at numbers... see Icon, Classic, 'Long Action'.... what??
More lookin'.... see Icon, Original, 'Medium Action'.... looks like two different lengths to me, the oal(over all length)of the two rifles were different... 44 3/4" and 44" respectively.

Somebody needs to pee in the cup... and it aint me!:banghead:

oh.. I forgot to mention that if you would like to get a 1/2"MOA certified Icon(.308 Only) with T/C's fancy high gloss finish applied to the entire rifle, you most certainly can... P/N 49550400 $2495.00:eek: Damn... they think a LOT of there new baby.

:D

It's a pretty crowded market that Savage pretty well owns. I wish 'em luck. TC makes great firearms. I ain't gettin' rid of my Savage 110 for it, though. I rather like the Savage, lots of great ideas went into that rifle to keep it affordable, yet high quality. The designer was a bit of a genius. :D
