Some guys don't care but a few years back Springfield supported anti 2a legislation in Illinois then quickly went back on it after the backlash. I remember, I don't care what they've done since- they don't get a cent from me.
thanks for the reminder!

Here's a link to one of the good TTAG pieces putting that debacle into perspective. Essentially, the CEO of SA made a business decision, trying to protect his company, get an exemption for his company during the big flail-ex about the proposed firearms retailer licensing bill. Business being business.

Whole lotta butt-hurt over that situation. I find it ironic that Ruger and Smith & Wesson still get a pass on all the crap they pulled that played into the gun control crowd's agenda over the years, but when it comes to SA, it's "Never forget! Never forgive!"

We SHOULD care what Springfield Armory has done since (to advance the RKBA) because it's a great example of how those of us in the pro-gun community can put pressure on the gun companies that results in significant change. SA is still fighting the good fight, behind enemy lines in one of the most gun-hating political arenas in the country; as far as I'm concerned, I no longer harbor any animosity toward the company.

I feel like doing a poll, since we've touched on the notion of boycotts: how many here still own and wear clothing made by Levi Strauss? Betcha it's most of y'all. Wanna know how many hundreds of millions that company has donated to gun control activism?

The original Colt's had finish issues, then they changed the rollmark to "M-45" and then the prices went from around $1500 to $3-4000 (if you can even find one now).

They were some of the last 1911's built by the Colt Custom Shop. You can still buy the rail guns for far cheaper.
I have a CCS M-45 with the crappy cerakote. Its a good shooter, but nothing special and if you look at it wrong it loses finish.

Carried 1911 .45 acp for decades.
Switched to HKP30LS.
Yup it's a 9mm, but it holds 17.
Cocked and locked :)

Swore off Levis years ago, after they became California. An old and storied brand, right down the crapper.
I like Lee Carpenters, and they (to my knowledge) have no baggage.
Lotsa gunmakers got things upside-down; when Bill Ruger still ran the company, he was on a 10 round jag, and "firearms for honest citizens". :(

No Levi's for me.
I do own a Springfield Armory

No bud light either!

Hence why I picked up a Tisas (and I have all the higher-end 1911s I'll ever need anyway). I'm gonna wring it out and see if it's worthy of being a carry pistol; initial reports from a lot of credible guys indicate that it is a pretty good pistol.

Tisas' 1911s are the new darling of the 1911 forums and its 1911s have quite the following. I may go ahead and pick up a Ranger as well; it looks like a darn good clone of Colt's M-45.

Good to note that (currently) the membership concurs with me about the SA Loaded being a good choice.
The Tisas do seem to be the darlings these days, but like anything else, it looks like you get what you get, and hopefully, it works. And don't count on that.

Ive got three of them now, two in 9mm and one in 45. The 45 has been the most reliable, but its a typical "out of the box" 1911, and it needs some help. Im fixing to go down and do a little work on it when Im don't typing here.

Both my 9mm's have been more miss than hit since I got them. Lots of failures to feed and double feeds every time out. They do use a ramped barrel set up that isn't typical of the 1911's, and I think that's part of the problem. I was thinking mags were some of the issue, but now Im not so sure.

My old police trade in Colt Commander has the more traditional barrel/feed ramp set up and runs fine.

I got bored last week and pulled the Tisas's both apart, and took the Dremel to them. Specifically, the barrel ramp, extractor, breech face, disconnector track, base of the firing pin lock, etc. Polished everything "bright" and re-tuned the extractors.

Took them both out and for the very first time, both guns went 200 rounds each without a single stoppage. Ill have to see how it goes from here on out, but things may be looking up. :)

I've always had a soft spot for Tom Threepersons holsters (yes, I know they are obsolete and outdated). So I ordered one from El Paso Saddlery for my conversion. Open toe, exposed trigger, hammer thong, standard cant. It arrived today, and I think I've fallen in love with it (I have a soft spot for El paso Saddlery too).

Springfield 1911-A1 Mil-Spec "Defender"

Everything you need - nothing you don't, and backed for life.

Next step up would be the:

Springfield 1911-A1 "Garrison"

Some nice accoutrements, without being racy or redundant.
Thanks for the recommendations. Neither have an ambidextrous safety, ambi safety a must for me.
I have been back and forth on the sights. Adjustable or night sights???
My current nightstand gun has night sights and I really like them!!! Actually I am thinking about swapping the sights on my Glock 19 & 26 to night sights.

Just out of curiosity - why is the ambidextrous safety "a must"?

Disengage it on presentation, and then reengage it before holstering, and keep the finger off the trigger when not actively shooting.

Why would a left handed person handicap themselves with a left side safety only?
I actually would prefer ambidextrous slide and magazine releases also.
I have a few right handed friends that replace safeties on their 1911s to ambidextrous safeties.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the Turkish 1911's that are out there now. They are usually available for cheap at PSA. I think these are a great choise for a entry level 1911, esp. if you haven't decided if they are for you or not.

Im starting to think that Tisas has or has had some issues with their extractors. I took my 45 acp Tank Commander apart to polish things like I had with my 9mm guns. When I took the firing pin stop off and went to dump the firing pin out, the extractor flew out first, which was a surprise. It just dropped into and out of the channel without any resistance at all.

I had a similar thing go on with the one 9mm, and was constantly having to re-tune the extractor. Gave up on that and replaced it with a Wilson.

I polished things up, re-tuned the extractor, took it out back and fired off a quick 50 rounds out in the yard. Ran pretty well for the most part, but still had two failures to feed out of the 50 shooting 230 grain ball. Guess we'll see how it goes.

Fired 15 rounds of .45acp in the Uberti 1860.
It's more accurate than I am, and no problem hitting a coffee can at 75 feet.
After 15 rounds, the loading gate retaining screw backed out enough to lock up the action. A dab of green locktight will fix that.

So far, so good.
