Just out of curiosity - why is the ambidextrous safety "a must"?

Disengage it on presentation, and then reengage it before holstering, and keep the finger off the trigger when not actively shooting.

Those look like USGI grips but in a color in between black and brown. What color is that or did you paint it?

It looks great!

I have a Springfield mil-spec in 45 and it's a tank. I put a Nighthawk threaded barrel on it for testing suppressors with it and it shoots very well. I also got a Glock 21 gen 2 recently and it shoots very smooth, like almost 9mm level of recoil IMHO. I was VERY impressed the first time I shot it I was like holy cow this is nice!! Do you already have a Glock in 45 Auto?

For $299 it leaves room to upgrade it.
Man oh man, I enjoy my 1911’s. But if you’re not familiar with 1911’s then let me share one tidbit in case you don’t know.

1911’s are not as plug and play when it comes to changing parts like a Glock or AR.

Sites may require your slide to be cut. Grip safety’s may require your frame to be cut and the safety itself to be fit. Thumb safety’s may need to be fit. Same with firing pin stops and slide stops.

If you’re good with that then there’s nothing wrong with buying a Mil Spec SA or Tisas Army and changing parts out. But if you’re not, then you may want to buy one that’s set up the way you want from the get go.

You mention being left handed, and needed ambi safety. Figured I’d mention that.

With any luck, the only thing you'd need to upgrade would be the tiny nubs they call "sights." Unless, as a wrong-hander, you feel you need the ambi-safety as well;)

Everyone should have a GI 1911 in his collection. The Tisas Army looks like a nice version. I've got the original Springfield Armory (pre GI), parked with the little bitty sights, vertical, not slanted serrations, arched MSH. I did put some old (1990's) staked King's "Hardball" sights on it (didn't want to pay to have dovetails cut in the slide) after my eyes got to the point where I couldn't see the ol' GI sights anymore.

As long as thing work, $299 is a good deal for what you're getting. Its a trap if you plan on altering/improving the gun. Tisia offers a ton of different 1911 models, and all of them are at reasonable prices, so I don't really see any advantage there, unless you have the ways and means to "fiddle" and that's what you want to do.

I just assume that with any of them, if you plan on counting on the gun for anything, you'll still likely need to have it sent out and have some basic reliability things addressed. And this goes for all the different makes, not just Tisas.

From what I'm seeing, you may well need to address/upgrade the extractor with the Tisas guns. At least with the basic models. Maybe I just got into a bad batch, but the three I have are all different guns, bought at different times, so it seems like something is up there to me.

If you want bigger than OEM/GI type sights, you might as well just get what you want. If you like the GI look, their Tank Commander version comes with larger sights. If you want to get your own done, dovetailing the front sight is really the only way to go.

From the 70's into the 90's, I had a bunch of upgraded sights put on 1911's, most all of them "staked", and on the guns I was shooting a lot, they all came off. Ive had aftermarket front sights come off in the first mag after they were done. The only front sights that stayed on, were either MMC (if memory serves) that were riveted/roll crimped on, or those Ive had dovetailed.

And don't discount the OEM/GI sights, while small, they are still very shootable. If you add a small drop of gloss white nail polish, followed by some flo orange, and they are quickly picked up and work well at most realistic distances, even for those of us who are or have become slightly vision challenged.

@WisBorn have you settled on a 45ACP?

Gotta admit, curious to see what you land on!
@md7 I was going to wait for the poll to close, but I don't see a significant change in the next day.
The Springfield has been the vote leader for the past several days and will be my next handgun and currently my only 1911.
I'm planning on working with my LGS in ordering a stainless steel loaded model with three dot combat sights. It will fill the role as my BBQ gun. I will purchase a snap close leather OWB holster for it.

The Tisas is really interesting and I may trade something that I currently don't use frequently towards one in 9mm or 10mm.

Awesome! I think you’ll enjoy your Loaded model. Hope it runs like a top for ya man.

I have the itch to add a 45acp to my collection.
I currently have a XDM Compact 3.8 in 45acp. This pistol is my favorite semiautomatic of the seven pistols I own. But it is the only 45acp I currently have.
Now of course I have a budget and the more I spend on a new firearm the less firearms I can buy.

Please vote for one of the options.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments in advance.
Well polls closed so no matter the no-brainer won but
can't understand why the Tisas would get twice the votes the Kimber would.
BTW, my choice was not on the list = SA 5" Tactical

I owned a XD mod 2 Tactical in 9mm. Nice gun I gave it to my nephew. I just prefer my XDM compact 45acp.

I think I will keep my eyes open for a XDS 45acp. But I will add a Springfield 1911 next.

I want to thank everyone for their votes and comments. My new 45acp was delivered today.
The Springfield Arms 1911 it was the vote winner and my new handgun.

I won't get it out to the range for a few weeks as I will be traveling. Well I'm getting out of Wisconsin for some warmer weather 😁

I had forgotten how nice a 1911 feels in your hand and how smooth and light the trigger is.
Range report to come!!!

Awesome! You'll enjoy it.

despite wisborn deciding on a springfield m1911, i wonder why a philippine-made m1911 wasn’t under consideration? i shot a friend’s tuned armscor (ria) in the philippines a few months ago. it was an amazing piece. besides armscor there is metro, ati… i know nothing of the m1911 platform.

I wanted to hit a couple of price points within my budget. And a couple of platforms.

With so many different options for 1911s, I went with a $500 Tisas, $1000 Springfield, and a $1500 Kimber.
The Tisas seems to be the hot entry level 1911 right now so I went that way. I know that RIA makes some nice 1911s also!

Thanks for your thoughts 👍

indeed on the budget 45 pistols: the philippine-made 45 pistols have dropped off the budget radar screen. i wonder why? the philippine pistols apparently accepted all 45 pistol mags. i was looking at tisas user reviews and read that these turkish pistols seem to be mag finicky. true?
