Nice going: we are driving away our own allies.

If you find that a thread is annoying or offending you, hit the "back" button and find another thread. If there is a person that is just always a jerk, put them on your "ignore" list. Why let another person decide whether or not you are going to enjoy your hobby or this forum?

Right on.

Ive been in the same place not at this forum but at another and my prob was with a mod a none of the other mods would do anything about it.. so i deleted everything and split and found here .. And am much happyer for it

I guess I'm just my usual oblivious self, since I haven't even noticed the apparent upsurge in these problems. Even if true, however, this is still my favorite board, and the worst transgressions here pale by comparison to some of the things I've seen on other boards. I think the overall friendliness, helpfulness, and intelligence here is a notch above the other places. I certainly hope it stays that way.

Amen.

The original post was well written and made good points. I find it remarkable that thousands of people can discuss a wide range of topics and get along. For the most part, THR does a good job.

I have always felt that non-firearms discussions of war, religion and non-firearms related politics are best left in a "catch-all forum" where things are allowed to get ten degrees hotter than in other areas of the board. There seems to be a subset of this board that are primarily interested in these issues.

That said, public posting sometime brings unexpected replies. It happens to all of us. Virtual life imitating real life...

Thats the standard mantra for people who think the Internet excuses them from basic civility. Just because you can say things without consequence that would get you punched in the nose in Real Life doesn't mean you should.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the crux of the biscuit. I don't care what people talk about, or what their opinions are or how many this vs. that armageddon threads there are (I can click or not click of my own free will), but what really sends me over the edge is rudeness.

All it takes is civility. Speaking only for myself, I have no problem with heated emotional argument or major-league disagreement, that's life. I have a serious problem with rudeness and those who take the shelter of anonymity and use it to act out their tough-guy fantasies over the net.

Start off polite and at least have the self-restraint to remain civil by the end. If you can't debate or argue a subject without freaking out, maybe you're in the wrong place. If you don't want your opinion on a subject dissected by the membership, and possibly disagreed with or <gasp> found wanting, maybe you should think twice about posting it on the freaking internet! :neener:

We must hang together...

Okay-I admit to being a smarta$$ at times, and, yes-I am laughing at you :neener:

I don't see racial issues come up here much, and when they do, it seems to be more of a lack of political correctness than of racism. I like a good Jewish joke as well as the next guy, as long as it's funny. Where I see hostility is towards gays and lesbians. I'm not gay, but I recently joined Pink Pistols in the Sacramento area. Why? Because they are one of the most active shooting groups in California. These folks are practicing and pushing for RKBA all the time.

No one said you have to support homosexuality, or any other practice/lifestyle/belief system. But you should support the endeavors of other shooters. And that is what I see the opening letter to a be about. We are hardest not on our opponents, but on our allies! We are in in a fight for the first and last of our freedoms! We don't have time for egocentric crap. It isn't 9mm vs 45 acp; it's armed vs disarmed. Period.

THR is the most civilized place on the Internet. I like that the Moderators will actually Moderate, and close a thread when it strays or gets nasty. It's so easy to be an obnoxious loudmouth in the privacy of one's own living room, where no one knows your face.

I just got THR back today, and I'd happily send Oleg a check, if it meant I wouldn't have to go four days without it again. Other boards do not compare. What we have here is rare and special.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Nearly everyone here is a hoplophile. Try to remember that we are all working toward the same goal. If you don't agree with the way another gunny sees fit to live their life, SUCK IT UP. Or we shall hang seperately.
