NOTHING in my house

NOTHING( I am referring to anything I own) in my house is worth anyone dying over, that's what insurance is for.
If my wife and or daughter are at home you are talking a whole new thing. You come into my house uninvited when my family is home I am going to assume you are here to do bodily harm to someone and I am going to do everything in my power to stop you ANYWAY I CAN.

The best warning sign is:

BEWARE OF DOG.

Any criminal who sees that will simply move on to an easier target. Criminals are lazy by nature and want something for little effort.

That makes sense to me, although I have to wonder about home invasions. While much rarer than burglaries of unoccupied homes, they do occur with some regularity. As mentioned earlier, an aborted attempt was made on my own home a few years ago (and actually there was another attempt that was aborted when the burglar simply found that my door was locked). How is a home invasion taking the easy, lazy way? I guess it means that they wouldn't have to search for the most valuable, important items, but the risk factor is obviously very high.

The BEWARE OF DOG sign is still a good idea, though, as it puts the risk factor through the roof in the minds of most criminals. I think the reason that security system signs are apparently not very effective deterrents is that many modern burglars tend to spend very little time in the home, looking only for small items of high value, particularly items they could use for identity theft.

How about a sign that says, "My dog will attack you and rip out your throat, after which I will repeatedly shoot you and the dog!" That kind of a sign ought to show 'em........

Dang, I think I just bruised my lungs from pounding my chest so hard there....

That's enough chest-thumping for one thread. If you guys are actually interested in reading up on strategies for home defense, I'd suggest taking a look at the Strategies and Tactics forum.
