now, aside from low cost...

I chose 9MM over .40cal, because 1.) ammo is cheaper, and 2.) for higher capacity. I knew I wanted a PT100 or PT92, 9mm is 17+1, .40 is 11+1.

You forgot "Politics" in the 'Pro' list. Our illustrious allies (Some of whom are ex-enemies, and more than once) were users and manufacturers of 9mm, so Uncle Sugar needed to give 'em some sugar.

Even being limited to 10 rounders here in CA, I also prefer 9mm over .40 because 1) ammo is cheaper 2) easier to shoot.

I find 9mm to be quite pleasant to shoot. Afterall, when it comes down to it, it's about shot placement, and I feel much more confident shooting 9mm than I do .40S&W. A hit with a 9mm is much more effective than a miss with a .40.

I like the 9mm because of several of the factors already mentioned here.
I like the hi capacity and I for sure like that's it's half the price of most centerfire ammo.
I especially like the guns that shoot 9mm , in particular Glock 19, BHP and CZ-75.
Oh, and my Marlin Camp 9 is a hoot to shoot.

9mm is second to .22 in a easy caliber to teach new shooters.

you have a huge number of choices in both frame size, manufacturer, type of material of pistol design and in ammo selection.

there is literally a 9mm pistol that virtually an shooter can find that will fit their hand and perform reliably without breaking the bank.

If the shooter does their job, the round will do its job.

Also, I find the 9mm a very forgiving round for people who don't get to the range as often as they should. Probably due to less flinching/recoil anticipation.
