They have their hearts in the right place, but this is exactly what we don't need.

People (anti-gun and otherwise) will say, "This is why citizen's with guns doesn't fix the problem."

Armed citizen’s gun accidentally discharges in front of military recruiting center

LANCASTER, Ohio (WCMH)-Police in Lancaster say no one was hurt when a gun of one of the armed citizens guarding a military recruiting center discharged. According to Lancaster police, officers responded Thursday to the military recruiting station in the 1500 block of River Valley Boulevard, on the report of an accidental discharge of a gun.

Christopher Reed told police he was standing in front of the military recruiting station with his AR-15 rifle to guard military personal, when a man asked to look at his gun. Reed said he attempted to clear the ammunition from the gun, and accidentally fired it into the pavement.

I knew this type of incident would happen. I have been against civilians "defending" military posts from the start. The rest I could say about that isn't very high road so I will leave it to myself. Thankfully no one was injured.

He looks incompetent; none of the rest of us had anything to do with it. Don't reinforce the anti's game of lumping all gun owners together.

There were no ND's in my area, but I still had some misgivings. Many of the citizens who turned up at our local recruiting station were "in costume". This citizen defense of recruiting centers is mostly a gesture to bring attention to the folly of disarming stateside military. It is a great gesture, and I applaud the sentiment behind it. But I give it a week or two before the movement fizzles out. I do wish, however, that anyone who joins in does so dressed as a respectable citizen instead of a wannabe special forces fanboy. After all, this is mostly about bringing attention to the fact that our nation shamefully disarms its stateside military, and that it is a shame that the citizenry has to defend its soldiers, instead of vice-versa. It is a protest.

Most of the guys I saw in my area were decked out in the latest tactical gear and scorpion camouflage. They stood out, but they looked a bit silly and not a little scary to the average soccer mom. I question the need to dress up in all the "tactical" outfits--clothing that they had, probably, acquired over the years in their enthusiasm for all things "tactical" and for which they finally had an event to wear them to. I made it a point to stop by, chat with, and have a good look at them, so that when the expected "man with a gun" call came in from some nervous soccer mom, I'd be able to quickly determine whether or not there was a real threat.

To my great surprise and relief, not a single 911 complaint was made.

His point was that the anti's use 'guilty by association' to demonize us all for the actions of one.

Made me cringe too.
Was all over the Columbus local news channels this evening.
A lot of hearts in the right place, but a big oops.

Good thing the guys with the badges never have those.

i appreciate the sentiment. it's unbelievably wrongheaded though.

I think the entire idea and concept is pointless. The probability of another identical type of attack at a recruiting center is somewhere around nil. Just like everything else they've (the terrorists) tried, whether successful or failure, they change their tactics.

To have civilians standing guard is stupid. Legal, sure, maybe. Intelligent? Apparently not.

But since I'm not one of these gung ho wanna be security guards, I don't see how I look incompetent.

Is anyone besides me old enough to remember what Pogo said about such situations?

"We have met the enemy, and he is us."

Gee, who could've ever guessed that would happen?

Some of the worst actions and consequences in recorded history where initiated by people that believed their hearts were in the right place.

Nice sights? Is this tier 1 operator running "lasers only?"

That's a game changer right there, folks.

Seriously, it's sad how the media lumps all of us into the same group when one or a few do something stupid.
