NRA Target Specifications

Does anybody know where I can find the specifications for the targets that they use in the Winchester/NRA Marskmanship Qualification programs, so that I can draft and print my own targets for home practice?

Alternatively, printable versions of the targets would work just as well.

I'm looking for these targets:

AR-4, AR-5, A-17, AP-1 (Bianchi)

I didn't look it up, but I think you can find those in the smallbore rifle rulebook. I think that is online. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately, none of the books had the specifications for the TQ-5 target which I also need.

Actually, the TQ-5 is for the Boy Scout Rifle Shooting merit badge. For my son.

Last I saw, the BSA shooting requirements were all about groups of 3 or 5 shots that can be covered by a quarter. In which case, the target doesn't matter, though I know they list targets you can use.

If you're anywhere near Indy I can give you a bunch.

First set of targets are covered with a quarter. Second set is for score.

k. Using a .22 caliber rimfire rifle and shooting from a bench rest or supported prone position at 50 feet, fire five groups (three shots per group) that can be covered by a quarter. Using these targets, explain how to adjust sights to zero.
l. Adjust sights to center the group on the target* and fire five groups (five shots per group). According to the target used, each shot in the group must meet the following minimum score: (1) A-32 targets - 9; (2) A-17 or TQ-1 targets - 7; (3) A-36 targets - 5.

* Note: It is not always practical to adjust the sights (i.e. when using a borrowed fixed-sight rifle). For requirement 2l, you may demonstrate your ability to use the shooting fundamentals by shooting five shot groups (five shots per group) in which all shots can be covered by or touch a quarter and then explain how to adjust the sights to zero the rifle.

There are actually four options for earning the Rifle Shooting merit badge: BB gun, air rifle, 22, and muzzle-loading.

While I'm not a big fan of a kid getting the merit badge solely with a BB or pellet gun, I've decided that I'm going to have my son qualify for the merit badge using, in order, the BB gun, air rifle, and 22.

The BB options uses the TQ-5 target. That's the one I cannot find the specifications for.

The air rifle option uses TQ-5 or AR-1.

The 22 option uses A-32, A-17, TQ-1, or A-36.

The specifications for the A-17 target are published in NRA's rulebook, because it's used in some of NRA's programs. Unfortunately, the TQ-5 isn't, so its not in the rulebooks.

Oh, and Target Express doesn't have the TQ-5 target. I checked.
