Welcome to the Rimfire Match for the month of October! This match is open to any and every 22 caliber (as well as 17 and 20 caliber) rimfire rifle including the perennial favorite .22LR, as well as the .22Short, .22Long, .22 Mag., .17HM2, .17HMR, and 5mm Rem RF Mag (as well as any oddball rimfires that you might have). This match is meant to be challenging and educational, but most of all FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle. If you have one handy, make sure an bring a friend too.

There are Two Optics Divisions:
->Iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots. Shot at 25yds.
->Scopes and other magnified sighting devices. Shot at 50yds.

*Note that the distance of irons div. returned to 25yds.

There are Two Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, sub-.20cal. chamberings, high magnification optics- over 10x [in the appropriate division] may be used)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles chambered for any rimfire cartridge .20cal./5mm and larger)

Both classes can be shot from any position. Rests/Sandbags/bipods are permitted in the Target Class only. Shooting stick(s) are now permitted for both divisions (either crossed or walking stick style). Use of a sling is encouraged.

25 Yd. (Irons) Target: See image attached below. Scale to "fit to page" on standard 8.5x11in. paper. The objective is to fire two shots at each of the 10 targets (including the bullseye target at top left). The target is scored as indicated and any shot that touches both the positive and negative point values is scored as the difference (e.g.: if a shot hits both the 10pt value and -7 point value, it would be scored as a 3). 50 bonus points are awarded for not impacting any of the "friendlies", for a maximum available score of 250pts.

50 Yd. (Optics) Target: Same as above.

If you enjoyed this match and want a bit more challenge, or just compare your rimfires to their larger cousins, check out the concurrent Centerfire Match (now quarterly).

When you are satisfied you've done your best post/attach (or shoot me a PM) a photo or scan of your target with as much of the following information as possible: Forum name (or name you want posted in the results), Rifle, make, model, vintage (if known), Sights/Optics (with magnification if applicable), Ammo, Position, Distance, Conditions (in/outdoors, wind, temperature...). Multiple submissions are allowed (in same or different division/class with same or different rifles).

Self-scoring is encouraged and appreciated; all submissions due before October 32nd. ;)

WOW!!! This will be a major challenge! I get the feeling this one will be dominated by the unlimited / target class. Nicely done and thank you as always.

There's only one problem with that target Mav, it was originally intended to be printed on European A3 size paper which is 11.7" by 16.5". If you try to print it full size in Acrobat you lose targets on both ends of the sheet.

If you print it having Acrobat "fit" it to the page, the targets are a bit smaller. If that's what you intended, I'm fine with that, just wanted to call it to your attention.

Jim

Glad you caught that; yeah, lets change that to "fit to page". Hope you guys like it...if so, I'm thinking it'll make a good centerfire target beginning next month (in which case I'll probably modify it to just one shot per target to conserve costly CF ammo).

:)

Boy you got that right Slapshot, but come to think about it it really isn't too much worse than the dots target from a couple months back. Gonna waste a lot of paper though because if you even nick a "good guy" it'll subtract from the score - have to start over again if you want to get a clean target, let alone a super score - :D Jeez, if it becomes the centerfire target, I'm gonna have to put the 24" barrel back on the .223! The short barrel shoots good, but not good enough for those little 10 ring head shots! That's like taking a head shot on a midget zombie at 500 yards with a 2X scope!:p

Wow these matches are killing me My HP Officejet is eating up some ink lol. So are we going to move the non magnified in to 15 yards, I printed this target on 8x11 paced off 25 yards in my back yard and with no rifle or anything and it looked like one big ink blot LOL. And I had my physical last month for work insurance and had 20/15 vision. :)

Only joking about the 15yards

If it really is difficult to see we can move it up. It's been raining here pretty much non-stop so I haven't had the opportunity to set it out and see how easy it is to acquire the targets.

:)

Ok, I'll start it off. What a bugger this target is - had to use 18 power, bipod and a rear sand sock. Took 5 targets to even get one I'd post! Still nicked one of the good guys after a good head shot for a 3 on one of them!!! I don't think I'll even try the irons division with this one - really can't see it well enough without optics to do anything more than center-mass on this silhouettes. To hard to keep from hitting the good guys. The .17HMR is the only rifle I have that I'd even trust on those little zombies even if the optics division was at 25 yards instead of 50. - Love it!

Range got busy and had another left hander riight next to me shooting a .300 Weatherby. He was on my left side and didn't like my hot brass landing on him (I was there first BTW) so I just packed up after the last target (one I'm posting). Might not be able to shoot any more this month as they are going to a reservation system pretty soon - all the hunters re-zeroing their deer rifles for the upcoming season.

Class: Unlimited/Target
Rifle: Savage 93R17, 17HMR
Optics: BSA Sweet 17 Side Focus 6-18 X 40 set to 18 power
Range: 50 yards indoors
Ammo: Hornady 20 grain XTP hollow point
2 round per target - total score 168

WOW

Can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch, let me grab a beer and take a seat in my rocker on the PORCH and watch this one LOL.

That ear nick on the good guy target is what I get for buying one of those dang cheap Savage rifles -

Gun show coming up this weekend in Wichita. Gonna have to get me some more Hornady 20 grain .17HMR ammo. It's the only thing that 93R17GVL likes. The 17 grain stuff will group ok at 50 (1/2") but opens out to over 3/4" at 100 yards. The 20 grain HP's will usually hold around 1/8" at 50 yards unless I get a bad lot (has happened). My stock of the 20 grainers is down to just over 200 rounds and they are all from a good lot #.

Wow is right!!! Very impressive Jim! Mr.Revolverguy: I might have to join you on that porch with a beer of my own. Lol.

Fine, shooting, Jim. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I'll need a scope this time. :p

Naw - Having the bar high raises your game. You either win, or learn something about shooting better. It's a win/win, in my book.

Thanks MrBorland, the rest of you guys give up too easy - that's only 168 out of a possible 200 - there's still 32 points to be had and better rifles than mine to do it with!

Don't forget to add another 50 point bonus for not hitting a friendly.

Yep, there's still plenty of chance for improvement, despite Jim's prowess at the range.

:)

It was a good reason to have a beer :) I was out at the range today but it was only to sight in my Henry 22 after putting a new Marble Bullseye rear sight and HiVIZ front sight on it.

Savage MKII TR
Nikon Target EFR Rimfire 3x9
Sandbag Front Rest
50yards Outdoor 68degrees windy it took me 5 tries to get this score.
The savage has about 200 rounds through it
Score 167
I really surprised myself on this one. I nicked the good guy top row last target. Next to the last on the bottom row looks nicked but the paper splintered I had no card board backing. If you hold the paper flat the silhouette is clearly in tact. No doubt the percussion hitting the bad guy would have made the good guy shart his pants. :)

Now back to the porch and my rocker with a cold beer :)

Good shooting, Mr.Revolverguy.

I noticed that you replaced the stock weaver rails on the Savage with an aftermarket 1-pc. P-rail (I did likewise, replacing it with a EGW 20-MOA rail). Did you have much trouble removing the stock ones on yours? Mine was a bear to remove, even tried heat (in the event that red LocTite 271 was used), but I ended up stripping the heads (using the proper size allen fitted to a torque wrench) and had to send it back to the factory for removal (which they did without question and even threw in a free magazine for my trouble).

:)

Doggone good shooting - if that had been a .17 instead of a .22 you likely wouldn't have nicked that GG. Especially good shooting since it was outside in the wind.

Nice looking rifle too. Did it come with that bolt handle knob or is that an aftermarket one? My 93R17 is a left hander and I've been looking for a similar bolt handle for it.

No Problems at all with removing mine.

On the Savage MkII TR rifles this bolt handle is standard.
