October Rimfire Match:

So it appears you score it-WORST edge.

In most BR, they are scores best edge. If the bullet just breaks the ring, with the aid of a 'plug' it is the HIGHER score.

Id have scored the target at the end of page one-a 99(post #25). The one above 85

I guess the rules dont address the scoring.

I scored it as a 68, is this correct? The scoring is a little confusing
Looks about right to me. My apologies, I was trying to make it a bit more challenging by adding the bonus points; which, I believe, is the source of the confusion.

So it appears you score it-WORST edge.
Not entirely. As long as you break the ring, you get the higher point value. The bonus points are a different story however, as you must remain entirely within the center ring to attain the bonus. Keep in mind that I am not trying to make the target so difficult that a perfect score is unattainable, I only seek to keep things relatively simple by preventing a slew of ties.

I guess the rules dont address the scoring.
Scoring is mentioned in the OP. I try not to make any changes mid-stream unless there is ambiguity.

I think it's a good scoring system.
The rings count as 1 thru 4, but a clean hit inside the center 4 ring gives you an extra point.
So you don't have to count X's.

So is the above 68 scored correctly? Im just trying to get this figured out as Im going back on wenesday to try and do better and would like to be better prepared for that and upcoming months :)

dnmccoy, your score looks close to 68. Just glancing at it, depending on how the bullets actually cut the lines, you could have scored anywhere from 65 to 71. It's hard to make the call on the close shots as to if they touched the line or broke the line. Based on the image you've posted, I would have said it was within a point good or bad of 68. With how close some of the rounds are I'm much more inclined to take your word since you can look at the paper in front of you.

As for scoring in the future months. Each month is a new game with a new target and new scoring. The scoring rules are posted in the first post of each month's thread along with the new target.

Here are my submissions... I goofed and shot both strings at 50yds instead of the irons at 25yds.

Target #1 - 50yds
iron sight target rifle class

A = 21
B = 22 (shot a 6 o'clock is close to being a 5, but I called it a 4)
C = 21
D = 24
TOTAL = 88

Remington 40X
shot off the bench with front rest & rear bag
Wolf MT ammo

Target #2 - 50yds
optics target rifle class

A = 24
B = 23
C = 24
D = 23 (I counted the shot a 4 o'clock as a 5 since I can see the line intact)
TOTAL = 94

H&R M12
Tasco Varmint 6 - 24x optic with Vianni mount
shot off the bench with front rest & rear bag
CMP ammo (40gr HV - old white box with CMP logo - this rifle LOVES the stuff)

Wow, that is some outstanding marksmanship, nbkky71! Particularly with irons. There is no limit on submissions, so feel free to attempt the irons again at 25yds. In case you were wondering, there is no rule prohibiting shooting at greater distance, so it will count unless you best it with another submission.

:)

Pretty windy here today for any kind of serious attempt but I had a good time.

2007 Marlin 39A
Factory iron sights
Remington HV HP
Prone (unsupported)
25 yds.
Wind 15-20 from 8 o'clock

I wanted to warm up some and then shoot on several targets but that was not to be. After maybe twenty warm up shots I realized I wouldn't have the stamina to shoot more than one target so here it is for better or worse. Any scoring help would be appreciated.

Thank you HG. That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure enough about my methods to say so.

Hey Mav, I noticed my score there in the Magnified Sporting division.
Thanks, but with a 15x scope on that 54, I usually figure I'm shooting in the Magnified Target division.
(I'd shoot in some of the other divisions, but the 54 is the only rimfire I have right now).

Oops, noticed it was prone with sling...missed the target rifle and high magnification scope. :eek: Thanks for the correction; I'll make the necessary changes.

:)

Results are in!

Magnified Division/Target Class:
1st: benzy2 - 99
2nd: Tie: Judah Ben-Hur & nbkky71 - 94
3rd: Three-way Tie: dc.fireman, KSCCHTrainer, & Heavies - 92
Honorable Mentions: Mr.Revolverguy (87), Caddiflied (84)

Non-Magnified Division/Target Class:
1st: nbkky71 - 88

Non-Magnified/Sporting Class:
1st: DJR - 75
2nd: happygeek - 70
3rd: dnmccoy - 68

Great shooting folks, don't believe I'll have time this morning, but I should have the new match up sometime tonight.

:)

Fantastic shooting all around guys and it actually feels good to get beaten by a super bunch of shooters.

Having cataract surgery on the 10th of November, so I'll be out of it for a little while, but I'll be back with a vengance as soon as the Dr. clears me for shooting again. I should have my distance vision back, at least in the right eye, so might be able to do better in the open sights division after that.

Anyway, looking forward to the next one.

Jim
