"Odd" Gun Stores That Sell Nothing

I used to go to a tiny bar in Hurley. WI. While having a cold one, I noticed the gun rack behind the bar. When I asked the bartender about them, she said "Oh, there're for sale". Now this is WI. It will be the last State to allow CCW. Very strict . I had a Milwaukee policeman tell me once I could not transport my cased rifle in my station wagon because it was "readily availible."

It was the tha last bar with a FFL in WI.

place the symbol next to the P on its right and quote put /quote on the end. In HTML it would look like this <quote>text</quote>. these are the brakets ] [ I have them backwards or they would disappear.

There used to be a little store on Center Ridge Rd. in Westlake, OH. They never seemed to have regular hours. Most of the time I went there, they were closed. Still, they had things I never saw anywhere else, like 6.5mm Dutch Mannlichers.

Eventually they just closed for good. There's a diner there now.

Can't seem to get the quote thing to work, pretty sure it's me.

Copy the text you want to quote then hit reply. Above the reply window click the little text bubble icon, next to the icon with the mountain looking things, and it will put quote brackets in the reply window. Paste the text between those brackets.

I was looking for a quote button for each post like most other boards have then I figured this out. The problem with this is it doesn't automatically put in who said what.

I think I've got it.:)

Thanks

There is not requirement to have a storefront to have an FFL. I know a coupe guys in town that just recently got their FFLS (this year) that operate out of their houses.

There is a requirement to abide by local zoning restricitons though. Here where I live, you cannot operate an in person retail store from a residentially zoned building. :banghead:

There's a gun shop about 20 miles where I live that seems to sell nothing. I have been in there many times because they sell them .22LR colibris and SSS ammo, which my 10/22 loves and I love shooting them colibris in my backyard. That shop is always empty and everytime I try and get into a firearm discussion with the cashier, he always knows nothing about what i'm talking about. Keep in mind he's like a middle aged guy and i'm only 16!! Makes me wonder what the real reason behind that store is.

Last time I heard, the BATFE checks with the local zoning regulations before issuing / renewing an FFL. I know of at least 1 gunstore in Warren Mi that started because the owner, who sold more as a hobby from his home and at gun shows, was told by the BATF that he wouldn't be renewed without a storefront.

Also, many cities in SE michigan prohibit firearms sales from a residentialy zoned building. I've inquired into it in three different cities, and been told it wouldn't be approved under any circumstances. One went so far as to require a brick or block building, with steel doors an no windows (glass block was allowed depending on how much there was). That same city also required a safe that met certain criteria, required all firearms be stored in the safe when the store was closed, and restricted what hours a gun store could be open. In short, local zoning laws can be enough to drive a dedicated hobbiest to open a storefront to get / keep thier FFL, yet at the same time discourage them from keeping ANY guns "in stock".

As to those gunshops that only seem to deal with police, I've run into a couple. I don't know if they do it that way because they only think police should have guns, or don't want the chance of someone who is ineligable buying, or if they just set up thier business to cater to police. But there is a significant percentage of gun stores that do it.

1. There used to be a store in Milan, OH apparently run by cops. One day, while I was in there, one of them opined that there should be NO private sales, and that ALL firearms purchases should have to go through a dealer. I stopped patronizing them that day.

2. There used to be a place in the city of Cleveland, that seemed to cater mostly to cops. Their prices were INSANE. I seem to remember back about '90 or so, they were selling a Taurus PT99 for something like $699.00.
