Old time shooter not impressed with the AR platform and wanting to talk about the AK

When I was at Ft. Lewis I purchased a new M1A (basic model) for around 280.00 out the door. Sold it to our unit armorer when I went overseas for about 300.00. Probably had about 30 rounds through it. Arguably my favorite rifle. Unless you humped it all the time. :D

Krebs or just Arsenal, Rifle Dynamics, VEPR, are some higher dollar AK's, but they're all basically just polished turds. They're outdated designs and importantly, they have an outdated chambering that isn't good for anything but shooting surplus crap.

The AK-12, AK-9, and RPK-16 look interesting, but the US bans Russian imports. Until that changes, at best we'll have a couple specialty companies selling the ears of lipsticked pigs for silk purse prices. Possibly Armenia may be able to get around US import bans. But it will take the hand of Putin himself for that to happen. It's not clear that there is a big US market for 5.45x39 or 9x39 rifles though, so probably they will export AK-15's if anything and then US buyers would still be paying too much to shoot an outdated surplus cartridge. They could chamber it for 6.5 Grendel, .300 Blackout, and .450 Bushmaster for export to the US, but that kind of development would sap Putin's profits.

Wrong forum and way too much misinformation. Thanks to some for trying to clear it up.

Op I suggest you ask your question again in the rifles forum. If you really want to know about high end ak, simply asking “what are the best ak?” Will get you a lot farther.
If you want to learn why the ar smokes the Ak in every way, And get disabused of ridiculous myths, I suggest starting a thread with “my uncle/cousin/coworker who is a ranger/delta/seal/operator says...” as everyone seems to respect appeals to unnamed authorities.
