Hey all,

Hope everyone's feeling good.

Today was one of those days that things just don't line up or don't make sense. I knew I had a short work day, only one appointment scheduled and my boss was off- so I was working alone. When I got to work my scheduled appointment wasn't there. Not terribly unusual but when you've only got one lined up for the day, it's frustrating . as usual a number of folks wandered in without appointments anyway.

Knowing I'd be done early I brought a few handguns with me and planned to hit the range before I headed home. I've got a buddy who is just now finally getting into guns and I told him I'd call on my way and he could shoot with me. When I was on my way I called to tell him, he's in a wheelchair and it takes him some time to get it all together and out the door .

I hit the worst traffic in recent memory trying to get to the range, instead of beating my friend to the range he beat me there by a half hour. I should have been there 10 minutes or more before him. Oh well, shootin' time!

My friend (who is an exceptional pool player but only been shooting 6 months) out shot me handily- with my own gun (6" gp100). Geez, some things gotta give. I pulled out my super redhawk and handed it to him along with a bag of 325 grain lfn bullets over a full case of h110. That'll teach him. Ha! All shots were low and left. I loaded it up and by gosh, all low and left for me too. What the heck?! Well, I adjusted the sights and it was back to normal. Then he out shot me with it too.

He's got a new sig 226 with a red dot, tried again and was out done again. Off day, I'm usually fairly decent and thought I should be able to best this newby. Not the case. So I owed the guy a beer. We loaded up and headed out. Well tried. My key wasn't on my key chain . no van key. No where. I went back into the range and picked through the trash, walked the store, parking lot, looked through my van and range bag. Checked my wallet or anywhere the dumb key could have ended up. Gone.

Oh well, one of those days. I called another guy I know who lives a block from the range for a ride- my other buddy was already down the road at the bar and didn't want him to have to do the whole thing again due to his disability. My other friend took 20 minutes to show up and he took me home to grab my spare key. My father in law who was watching my kids today got a good laugh at my expense and I headed out to get my van.

Finally get home and take my range bag out and underneath it was my key. How? I have no idea, slingshot action I guess. Bizarre . I figure today isn't my day, oh well, almost over. Just had to cook the kids dinner, a couple minutes later I hear my almost 2 year old crying from the living room, go to look. Not there. She was in the bathroom, she tried to sit on the toilet with all her clothes on and fell in. Soaked and upset. Shower time. Meanwhile I'm wrangling my 3 year old who likes to run wild too.

I'm good now, kids are in bed, I'm just sitting here and hoping nothing else crazy happens today. Wish me luck!

Oooooooof, rough one fellas.

I just sat in about 2.5 hours of So Cal traffic to get home... people who do this every day are nuts. :(

On the semi-bright side, I bought 1K of Aguila .22 LR for 102 bucks plus tax, which is the first ammo I’ve seen on the shelves here in a year.

On the fully bright side, I started the 10-day wait on a sweet S&W 67 no-dash this evening. I’ll get that home soon.

Stay safe.

Busy days fly by, and I am glad you survived the experience. Now, a suggestion that you apply your new knowledge while it is fresh in your cranium, and that is to hide a key on the vehicle. I have found that 1 1/2" black electrician's tape on the inside of a radiator tank, door jamb or other spot not likely to be checked is unobtrusive, secure and retrieved easily if you know where it is. I have been known to forget where I hid it, too, so maybe put that in your phone notes in code.

Well hope you got it all out of your system today and the next month or so goes along without incident. If these days didn't happen you would never appreciate those rare gems that are so good. At least you got to shoot some today. That makes up for a lot. And you found your key! Bonus:D
Thanks.
Yeah, I did find my key after much trouble.

I feel that. Yesterday, I went to the wall to practice for my ccl qualification/ class this Saturday.

I hit a bump too hard, and tore off my bumper, and oil filter. Totaled my 2018 ford focus with 30,007 miles.
EDIT: Added the image below. You can see where the damage is. What happened was that this speed bump was not painted ,nor was there a sign, so I ran over it at 40ish miles. The piece that holds the radiator bent into the car, and sheared off my oil filter. So far, I don't think it'll run anymore.

Ahh the lost key. Been there. At least you were close to home. I wasn’t even in the same state when I lost mine. I live in Oklahoma and was working an FLW Forrest Wood Cup event on Wheeler Lake in Alabama. Show up early like always. I launch dad, and park his truck. Dad launches me and parks my truck, and we go the pre-tournament meeting for an hour or so and then go film for the day.

When I get back I have my key fob with house keys, but no ignition key. And I only have one ignition key. Looked all through my truck. Dads truck, all through both our boats. Looked everywhere. Three times. After about 30 minutes I’m going to have to unhitch the trailer and load up my boat with another truck. No idea how we’re going to get it bact to the hotel and back to the lake the next day. Then, out of nowhere a photographer/writer comes walking up and asks if I lost a key. I said yes and he pulls out my key. The plastic is broken just like yours. He said he happened to see it in about a 8” of water on the ramp when they loaded up after they got off the water.

Now think about this. We were there at 04:30 in the morning. We were the first boats to launch. And then all the pros launched and all the other media boats. That’s a minimum of 75 boats that used the ramp after us. And we were one of the last ones off the water. So another at least 50 boats loaded before us. My key sat on the ramp, under water, all day. And this guy just happened to be looking down at the exact perfect moment.

To keep this gun related, I had brought my XD45 and AR-15, and Dad had his S&W 29-1, and his AR-15.

Thats just Gods funny way of telling you to get a spare key and a magnetic box, silly.....:D

True story- I put a car up in the air once to do an oil change, but there was another line on the ticket stating that the customer wanted a spare key made.

While the oil was draining, Im doing a once over of the vehicle and noticed a magnetic key holder stuck under the front bumper. I went to the customer and asked if he wanted the new key in the box, and, of course, the guy didnt know anything about it- a previous owner had put it there. We found a spare key and $20 hidden inside.

Now, since a new key for that car was about $150 programmed, this fella was pretty stoked- he ended up giving me the $20 as a tip.:)

Ive found guns, drugs, and money rolls hidden in cars too, but those I dont touch, or even mention to anyone except the manager.

Those sorts of days suck in the making, but can be fun complaining about later!
My little monsters just went down, and the silence is deafening lol.

So why was the Redhawk shooting low and left? Hope it’s not high and right your next time out!:D
Not too long ago I cleaned it real well, sights and all. A month or 2 ago (last time I shot it) i messed with the sights a little . not a big deal, I adjust the rear sight when I change load sometimes too- POI is different between the heaviest and lightest loads.

That resembles key to my 2006 Tundra. Does it have immobilizer chip? Mine does not, so duplicates are cheap and easy.
No chip, it's a 2001 sienna. 20 years old .
I very rarely lock that van, it's old and the only thing worth stealing would be the kids car seats. I don't see that happening.

Ive found guns, drugs, and money rolls hidden in cars too

Yeah, I've seen some real bad stuff in customer cars. Really really gross stuff too. Unspeakable .

I epoxied a small super Neo magnet to a spare car key, slipped it into a small plastic bag, and parked it inconspicuously on the car.

This, in addition to the one in my wallet. Spares are cheap. Walk into the Subaru dealer, show them my registration, they cut keys from the VIN for about $8 each.

I've been locked out enough times that I've got spare keys for everything squirreled around everywhere. One sudden snowstorm after a day of 60° hiking in a shirt and shorts taught me that. Sure, "layering," but the next layer was skin.

I've even got spare keys to the places I hide my spare keys! Seriously.

It sometimes takes a bit of high-level plotting to plan it all out. And you have to assume you're naked to start with.

I just re-read this thread and something struck me about the 10-day waiting period. I guess they call it a cooling-off period?

What's the sense of that if you already have guns?

Is there something I'm missing about the logic of the 10-day waiting period?

I lost my keys at work the other day. Had to remove a plastic shield, while laying on the floor, to access the lower radiator hose, everything kept falling out of my pockets including my key chain, with my trigger lock key. The whole mess fell into 8 in wide drain filled with mud, oil, antifreeze, water..... What's mess sprayed them off with brake cleaner. The hardest to replace would have been the trigger lock key. The worst part is the only gun I had in my hands was a snap on air impact gun, no recoil, but 1000 ft lbs of torque.

hit a bump too hard, and tore off my bumper, and oil filter. Totaled my 2018 ford focus with 30,007

You might get lucky, as long as you didn't run it too long the motor should be ok. The lower core support is also replaceable, and the remote oil filter cooler isn't that expensive or hard to replace.

Only one way to find out, man. Just a bummer, and I'm assuming it's totaled until I'm told otherwise. Just a **** day.

I put ONE BOX of my most common calibers, and ALWAYS one box of my CHL pistol, in my range bag

About 20 boxes then (hahaha):p

No seriously, I'm NOT trying to say I've EVER, ever-ever went to the range and forgot the bullets or ANYTHING like that:what:...

:)

Well I didn't have quite an eventful day as that but all I've wanted to do since I got my new shotgun is to get to the range and shoot it. We have had pretty crappy, cold weather lately and my time is limited due to work. I had volunteer work lined up for the church last weekend and also for next weekend so this Saturday was my only day to do it seeing as it's my only day off and it's the only break in the poor weather. Well last minute I get stuck at the house filling in for my wife looking after a developmentally disabled person on my day off. The wife was only supposed to be gone from 11am to 3pm and because of my mother it turned into an all day event. Meanwhile my dog just sits at the door and whines the whole time. Not a happy camper here. Feeling a lil sorry for myself if you couldn't tell.....

I have two boys. One turned 3 2 weeks ago and the other turns 2 in July. To say my shooting has taken a back seat is an understatement.
To keep having fun. I started driving them six miles to town with the horse and wagon.
When our kids get older. The range time will be spent with them instead of them holding us back from it.
