if these are the only guns you can own and use for the rest of your life
Remington 870 express 12 gauge
Bersa thunder .380
S&W model 10 in 38 special
Marlin 780 .22 LR bolt action rifle
Ruger 10-22 carbine
Taurus 66 old model .357 revolver
SKS in 7.62x39mm
Mosin Nagant M38 7.62x54R
Would you be satisfied with these guns?
Would they fit most of your needs?

the list is based on affordability and practicality
a 686 is expensive and not in my collection so it is not on the list in this thread but I would be more than happy to acquire one in the future.

The great men (and women) who tamed the wilderness and built this nation very often went their entire lives with only one gun... They did alright. ;)

I'm a bit of a 'black gun' enthusiast. Without AK-xxx rifles, M-xxx rifles, etc. the slight mall ninja within me won't be satisfied :p

with that said, you can actually downsize that list considerably and still meet your needs. You can buy more expensive guns with uppers or conversion kits, and be set with just three or four guns for around the same price of everything. Just my .02. But, I wouldnt ever sell a gun unless they were pure junk, so I'd keep those and just expand when you can.

My favorite rifle is
Ruger 10-22 truly a fun rifle to shoot but have not had time to shoot lately
My favorite all around gun is
Remington 870
My best concealable handgun is
Bersa .380
My best revolver is
S&W model 10
My best defense rifle is
sks
My best bolt rifle
Mosin Nagant m38
Narrows the list down to my most essential guns.

The only ones in the list I would actually purchase would be the Smith, Marlin and Taurus. I would have to substitute my choices for all the rest. And the choice of calibers would be very different for the same applications. My opinion only, no one else need bother.

Some of them would work OK but I wouldn't be satisfied with most of them.

IMO, don't go cheap unless you have to go cheap.
Always buy the best guns you can afford.

FWIW, I have a good friend who manages a local gun department. He told me the other day that he's had to take Taurus revolvers to the work bench and open them with a wooden mallet just to show them to customers. And the customers still bought them, even knowing that they were defective, because they have a "lifetime warranty". Not really something I'd want to trust my life to.

Most of the others are good enough but I'd have different preferences.

Double negative. I'd rather have fewer quality guns. For example, if I had to, I could get by with

  • A good quality 1911--Springfield or better
  • A CZ 452 (.22)
  • A Remington 870, but a better quality one than the Express
  • An M1 Garand

Of course, I wouldn't be really happy to be limited to those few. I like options.

no and nope.

i don't see a hardcore hunting rifle, and i don't see a precision tackdriver.

i could get by without the handguns, commie weapons, and 22's just fine, but ah needs mah bolt guns.

No.

The only one there that I would keep is the model 10 S&W. And even that one maybe not forever. The others would all be gone in under a year.

nope :)

My favorite rifle :
AR15 with SabreDefense upper or Savage GVXP 22LR ( tie )
My favorite all around gun is
Colt 1911 Combat Commander
My best concealable handgun is
Colt 1991a1 compact
My best revolver is
S&W model 586
My best defense rifle is
AR15 with SabreDefense upper
My best bolt rifle
accuracy: short distance : Savage GVXP longer: Tikka T3 (.308)
I would still be hard pressed to give up my Mausers or Enfields though. :)

They would almost fit my needs. I would be satisfied with none of them though.

My needs are:
Glock G22 .40 cal
Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm
Mossberg 500 Field/Security Combo 12 ga.
Ruger Mini-14 carbine .223
M1 Garand .30-06
Savage Mark II FV .22lr bolt action

Those cover every situation I can think of that I would want a gun for.

the only one on the list i would be happy with is the 1022.

as far as the rest i prefer a little higher quality.

it would do with a few substitutions

i will mention a few and the reasons why:

sub1: a nice ar instead of the sks.
reason: i want to be able to hit a quarter at 100 yds, not a quarter panel.

sub2: a nice kimber or colt compact 1911 in 45acp instead of the bersa for my ccw
reason: any good carry caliber should begin with 4 and end with 0, 4, or 5.

sub3: instead of the 870 i would rather have a nice old 1100 or a 1187.
reason: i just like to be a little faster on the follow up.

sub4: instead of the mosin a 700 tactical in 308.
reason: accuracy, reloading options.

i could make do with the guns on the list but i wouldnt be satisfied with them unless i had never tried anything better.
