Only One: Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol

I hate to be dull but...

Ar-15
Glock 23
Remington 870

There really isn't anything that cant be done with these three and the right combination of ammo.

Before I answer, I gotta give the usual disclaimer copout for these threads: "Why?" For example, for permanent bugout I would select a certain set, in prolonged financial hardship requiring a selloff I would keep a different 3, house-on-fire-grab-3-quick is different yet, and if there was some harebrained Limit Law I might select 3 different still.

That being said, since I recently went through the "financial hardship" thought exercise anyway, this is what I came up with:

Pistol: My daily G26. I've trained with it and carried it extensively. I really like it. Sure, my G19 is more "versatile", but the G26 is everything it needs to be and nothing more.

Rifle: Tough one. I've tried hunting the past 2 seasons and gotten skunked, so I might be over this requirement. In most of the above scenarios, the keeper is my LMT/BCM middy. In others, it's my Marlin Model 60 or Maadi. Again, the AR class I took lends tremendous value to the AR over my "untrained" platforms.

Shotgun: I'm really not much of a shotty guy. I'd really rather use the slot for a second rifle. In any event, my only smokepole is my 870 Wingmaster with a 30" full choke. I'd keep it but swap the 30" full bbl for a 24" with screw-in chokes.

Funny that my .22LRs do not feature more prominently in my list. I like .22LR and use a lot of it. I'd hate to be stuck with "just" .22 in many scenarios, given the choice.

1) Mini-14, 580 series, more than sufficient accuracy, rock solid, reliable.

2) Mossy 500 12 gauge, 18.5" barrel, because its what I have and I got it cheap.:)

3) XD-40, very reliable and accurate pistol in my experience.

From what I've got:

Rifle: Pre '64 Winchester Model 1894 in .30-30

Shotgun: Browning A5 in 12 ga.

Pistol: Colt M1911 in .45 ACP

If I can have only three, they're all going to be by Browning.

So here is the scenario. You are only allowed one of each and they are the only ones you will be able to have for the rest of your life.

Winchester MD21 12 gauge
.375 H&H Ruger #1 tropical
.45acp S&W 4566

Shotgun - 870 12 gauge 18"; shot & slugs

Rifle - Any good bolt action .22lr; cheap to fire and easy to maintain.

Pistol - Ruger GP100; no need to worry about magazines and very versatile

This would be my 3 guns........survival is the key to my picks.

.308 scoped bolt action
Ithaca model 37 with variable choke bird barrel, and slug barrel (12 gauge)
Ruger Blackhawk .357 with extra 9mm cylinder

Shotgun: Remington 870 Express Super Magnum. 3.5" chamber, so it can use as many different kinds of ammunition as possible. Primarily for home defense.

Handgun: HK USP45 Tactical. It's my usual carry weapon. Not much else to say about it.

Rifle: PTR-91. I think the .308 is one of the best all around rifle cartridges out there, and PTR-91s are built like tanks. It'd be a trunk gun.

OK I Will Play-

Shotgun- Remington 870 12 gague "Marine Magnum" resist all the elements

Rifle- Colt CAR-15 5.56mm Match Target Competition H-Bar with
detachable carry handle, and collaspsible stock. Also, using a
Calvary Arms mount (mounted to carry handle, drops down to
about 1/4" above the handguard) and has a HOLO-sight sitting
on the picatinny rail; for fast target acqusition.

Handgun- 6" six-shot Smith & Wesson 686-5 with hand honed
action and WOLFF spring kit installed.

Rifle: Marlin 336 .30/30.

Pistol: Glock 22 .40

Shotgun: Remington 870 12 gauge.

I could also be happy with a Mini 14, a good bolt .30/06 or an HK 770 .308 for the rifle, a Glock 17 or 19 or a Ruger GP100 for the handgun, or my 8 shot Mossbery 500A 12 gauge for the splattergun.

Outta the herd?

Shotgun: Winchester 12 ga. Model 1200 riot gun.

Carbine: CZ VZ58 (7.62x39)

Pistol: CZ 97B .45 ACP

To the original poster - a gnomic choice, if there ever was one.

For some weird reason, this reminds me of Geo. Thorogood's "One bourbon, one scotch, one beer."

If I HAD to go down to three.

Glock 27 and Mossberg 500 w/18" barrel

Torn between the Savage 308 and the M1. Probably keep the M1 though.

If I had to thin the herd to three:

Pistol: S&W 686 .357 revolver. Not my favorite handgun to shoot, but the best choice for self defense, SHTF, reliability, versatility, durability, etc. If I had to choose one firearm period, this would be it. But it's awfully painful giving up my 1911...

Shotgun: Mossberg 590A1. My home defense/SHTF longarm. It's got great set of ghost ring sights with a a Knoxx stock and a Surefire light on it. Very bad-ass looking, and a blast to shoot.

Rifle: I'm going to go with my AR (tight race with the M14 and Garand) - the deciding factor was because I have a Spike Tactical .22LR upper for it. Plus ammo is cheaper and more readily available than .30 cal.

Rifle, pre 1964 Model 70 Winchester .308 Winchester
Shotgun, Remington 870 Special Field 12 ga. 3"chamber 22" bbl. Rem Choke
Pistol, Ruger Blackhawk, 45 Colt-45ACP Convertible 5 1/2" bbl

Shotgun: 12 Gauge Pump w/bird and slug barrel- Bird Hunting, Larger Game (deer) Hunting, Defense

Rifle: Ruger 1022 - Small Game Hunting, Rabbit, Squirrel, etc

Handgun: Ruger Service/Sec Six or gp100: Defense, pack gun

All three could be pressed into service for a variety of uses. Ammunition should be readily available for all three...

Just to be a contrarian -

Make my shotgun a Perazzi or Fabbri pigeon gun

Make my rifle something from Peter Hofer, possibly a drilling or vierling

Make my handgun something nice, like a S&W K-38 Masterpiece.

I have no need or interest in tacticool guns
