IDK, I would hate to be handcuffed to 5.7 ammo for my only handgun and only rifle, that sounds absolutely horrid from an ammo supply standpoint alone, without getting into ballistics or available firearms to specifically choose from

Ammo supply would could be trouble for sure. I'm not sure if I would do that, but I could see it happening. Although, I would probably be comfortable using a .22 mag rifle/pistol combo if they were more reliable. Something like the Kel Tec CMR/PMR.

I'll play. My definition of flexibility relates my core interest in hunting, so ...

Ruger GP100 in .357 mag, 4-inch barrel. Can carry concealed in a pinch. Enjoy reloading the .357 cartridge with everything from mouse-fart plinking loads up to full-house hunting/defense loads. Max flexibility in a handgun.

Mossberg 500 12 gauge. I already have a 28-inch vent rib barrel with removable chokes, a 24-inch rifled slug barrel with cantilever-mounted Leupold 4X, and an 18-inch cylinder bore with bead sight. Max flexibility from upland game to big game to home defense.

Remington Model 7 in .308. Been my go-to hunting rifle for years. Does great with 150 and 165 grain hunting ammo. Been experimenting with some lower velocity cast bullets driven by Trail Boss for plinking and targets. Again, max flexibility out to 600 yards or so.

I like .22s a lot, and would miss them. But if I could only have three, I'd rather hand load for the handgun and rifle than sacrifice one of them for a .22.

Yes. Hillary's goons are going house to house and if they find one non compliant gun or story about a "boating accident" you get shipped of to the re-education camp where they have giant murals of her hanging on every wall along with a loop of her cackling laugh played 24/7. Got it comrade? :D
I keep reading this post and smile.... that nice lady would do that? ;)

I still lean toward mostly 22's that I would keep. But my world ending-hit the road rifle caliber is 22 mag.

This thread still going?!

Alright I'll play:

Rifle: AR15 Franken Gun:
Smith & Wesson lower
Gieselle SSA Triger
Trijicon MRO
BCM 14.5" barrel with pinned muzzle brake with threads to accept a muzzle blast redirect sleeve
13" MidwayUSA lightweight free float handguard
Magpul PRO front sight, Knights Armament Micro rear sight
Quick detach flashlight mount

Shotgun: FN SLP with +2 mag extension

Pistol: Sig P239

6.5 Grendel is too expensive and not exactly easy to come by, now. Midway, for example, lists Lapua, Norma and No$ler as being currently available, starting at $31.99 per 20. It will not be found at all in small places or anywhere for your hypothetical academic exercise.
Ditto for the 5.7mm Johnson. No brass. No ammo.
"...imaginary scenario with President Clinton..." Very likely mean no more civilian ownership of FA kit either.
When you're playing hypothetical academic exercises like this particular one, you have to consider that there will be no odd or newish chamberings in commercial ammo or brass available. Comrade Clinton would very like have written Presidential Edicts banning their sale.
Think in terms of any 9mm, any .223 and any 12 gauge. Military and police use those chamberings. Which firearm doesn't make any difference.

44 Magnum Pistol (S&W, Ruger... )
44 Magnum Lever Action (Henry...)
12 Gauge Pump (Remington, Winchester...)

I'm not able to play this "what if" situation as I already own more than three firearms, and there is NO WAY She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named (You Know Who...) would ever get me to "give them up", period.

Besides theyre all .22 manual actions and break action shotguns anyway so they'd likely be off the radar anyway

However, if I was starting over from scratch, I'd choose;

AR-15 pattern rifle (with additional uppers)
CZ-75B 9mm
Mossberg 590 milspec

I can and do "stock up". Besides, think of all of the rounds you can carry (30) in a pistol on your belt.

You could stock up on 2x or more as much 9mm for the same price, with infinitely greater availability now and in the future, while also stocking up on something like 5.56 or x39 for the same or less also with infinitely greater availability now and in the future. That's what I am thinking of when I say I'd hate to be stuck with 5.7 for my only handgun and only rifle (not to mention platform restrictions)

I'd rather have a mag full of 9/40 HST than 5.7 but to each their own

That's what I think about in a "bug out" gun. Not a 5.7, but a .22 WMR. Pistol, revolver, or rifle. Fairly versatile for a rimfire cartridge and a lot of ammo fits into a small space.

22 WMR rifles are pretty versatile and sufficiently powerful to reliably take down large varmints, or a whitetail deer if you had to in a worst case scenario.

About 15 years ago a local farmer lost a young steer when it got through his fence. It turned up months later on our property. By then it was wild enough you couldn't get close to it, and at 900lbs there was no trapping it, so the farmer showed up with a .22 mag. Once shot to the brain from 50 yards and it dropped like a sack of potatoes!

Easy...

Pistol: Ruger Mark IV 22 threaded and a rebel suppressor.
- Silence is golden?

Rifle: Any Milled AK47..
- It will work.... always and can take just about any game in north america.

Shotgun: H&R Topper
- They have aluminum shells and barrels that can just be placed inside the existing barrel of this gun and allow almost any round to be fired by the gun.

Ruger GP 100 .357 .for it's strength ,reliability, and capability of using 38 special . Remington 870 shotgun ,strength and reliability , R 15 , ease of acquiring ammo, reliability , accuracy , and fire power .

Ruger security six .357
Rem 870 12 Ga with rem chokes
Rem 760- 30.06 with scope
I have ample reloading supplies on hand to keep supplied with ammo for all three for quite a while!
