seems like too arbitrary a number to me. today I am into redundancy.
For rifles. I would suggest a couple of ARs. They can do just about anything from SD to hunting deer size animals. A 22LR for smaller game and practice.
For shotguns a couple of 870s. They can do anything any other shotgun can do.
Pistols. A 22 semi-auto for practice, and a couple of SD pistols.

In general, i want to stick to plentiful ammunition. It's kind of a prepare-for-the-worst collection.

A medium-sized wheelgun in .357 magnum
I'm liking 9mm Luger, and i don't mind a full-sized Glock, so 17 it is. The Glock 26 is also 9mm and fills its own niche for being compact. The .357 wheelgun just seems versatile and practical.

AR in 5.56x45mm with 20" barrel
Something in .22LR
I can't get 7.62x39 locally, but it would be cheap to stock up on. One can't go wrong with an AK. The AR-style rifle is common and will likely be supported for decades to come. I would prefer a 16" barrel, but i already have a carbine in the AK. .22LR would be for practice and hypothetical hunting.

Saiga 12 reconfigured
870 because it's practical, Saiga 12 for ducks, hypothetically. I'm all tools, no skills.
