given your scenario

Pistol--either a 4" S&W M66/686 or a Commander-sized 1911 (with a .22LR conversion kit)
Rifle--Remington M700 in .30-06
Shotgun--Remingtom M870 in 12 gauge with multiple barrels

This week it will be:

1) Rifle: AR-15 in .223 with all the toys.
2) Shotgun: Mossberg 590 with a pistol grip and a foreend light.
3) Pistol: Glock 17 with a surefire light and night sights.

It will change next week I am sure.

Rifle - ER Shaw, .308 WIN, BUIS
Shotgun - FNH SLP
Pistol - Ruger Single 6 Hunter - 7.5"

I went for commonly available ammo....

After reeding many of the posts I think I am going to make a minor adjustment.

Shotgun: Remington 870
Rifle: Mini 14
Pistol: Glock 22

I gave up the .22lr handgun because I realized the Shotgun could be used with lighter loads to take small game and the Glock 22 gives me conceal ability in a powerful cartridge. Not that it is a big deal but I am just trying to think of the essentials.

Rifle: AR 15

Shotgun: Remingtom 870

Pistol: Glock 17 (Light weight/High capacity)

Or my Springfield 45 TRP SS. (Shoots great/Well made)

I thought it best to choose from guns I own.

Shotgun: Winchester Model 12 Trap gun
Would not want to spend rest of life not shooting trap.
Very rugged
6 round magazine good for self defense

Pistol: Smith Wesson Model 60
Lasts forever
Concealable
Fires 38 Special and the new ones fire 357 Magnum

Rifle: Winchester 1892
Always wanted one of these since watching The Rifleman as a kid
And, if I have a shotgun and a pistol, who needs a rifle anyways?

AR15 (with a few extra uppers in different calibers), 1911 (with a rimfire upper), my Mossberg 590, and an E tool...

shotgun - 12ga pump mossburg
rifle marlin 336C 30-30
pistol -45 acp , kimber custom carry II

and a duce and half to carry they ammo

Out of what I would like:

Rifle - SLR with some manner of low-powered riflescope mounted on it
Shotgun - Winchester 1200
Pistol - Beretta 92

Unfortunately there are restrictions on what serfs like myself can own, so out of what I can (and do) have my list looks more like:

Rifle - 20" barreled Remington 700 in .308
Shotgun - Stoeger 12g Coach Gun
Pistol - Beretta 92

Still plenty of fun :)

Hello friends and neighbors // The three I'd keep.

Handgun___S&W 586 , 6", 357/38, 6 round
Rifle_______Marlin 795, 22lr syn. stock, multiple mags,10+1
Shotgun____Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga. with extention tube,7+1

IMHO a shotgun and ammo are too heavy for what you get out of them. I'd prefer another rifle or revolver, my Interarms(Rossi) model 92, 357 lever,10+1 or a S&W 617 ,22lr,10 round revolver.

Handy-Rifle shoots all calibers with a quick barrel change including shotgun shells
Shotgun Ruger Red Label SxS in 20g
I would get a CZ 75B with a .22 conversion kit for the pistol.
