i said something a while back about open carrying tomorrow, just reminding those who said they would be joining. happy carrying.:)

I suppose it's casual friday so it's ok if my brown OWB holster for the 1911 doesn't match my black gunbelt and tactical levis? :D

Aren't you all concerned that you'll scare the sheeple and call the police on you? That would be the main thing that would keep me from open carry, even though it is technically legal to do so.

Some would say, that's the best reason to do so. "A right not exercised.." and all that. There's a bit of a movement in certain areas to spread the word that, in free states anyway, it's perfectly legal, and the public/police all need to be reminded of that.

That's an interesting point, Lew. I'd never thought of that. I am fortunate enough to live in the free state of Ohio, where open carry is technically not prohibited by law. To be honest with you, though, in all my days, I've never seen anyone open carrying, except for LEO's of course. I assume in Ohio, I would be okay to open carry at 19, since you have to be 18 to posess a handgun, you only have to be 21 to buy one from a FFL. Oh well. I don't even have a handgun...yet. Unless I want to open carry my SKS. :neener:

What's the deal with tomorrow? Whoops, it's almost 2 am. I guess that makes it today.

I'm off from my job tomorrow and was planning on heading to the range and then doing some errands. What's the story with open carry?

I'd love to carry my gun on my hip with my shirt tucked in. I live in KY and it's legal, but, still, there's bound to be some hassle.

Nothing wrong with it and it's been a long time since I've done it, but is there anything special about tomorrow? Other than all of us cool guys walkin around with guns?

I think I will join you all and open carry during my errands. It will be my first time doing it and I will report back as to what happened.

Rebel Zero... (and others)

the gimmick here is it is the SECOND day of the SECOND month, so you are celebrating the SECOND ammendment...

MY addition to this thread and concept is that it SHOULD be "OPEN CARRY DAY" on the SECOND of EACH and EVERY month...

Maybe I should put the strap back on my SKS and take a walk. Rich college town, it'd probably scare the bejeebeers out of them.

I open carry about half the time. At least around here the only reaction I've ever gotten is no reaction at all, unless you want to count a couple of people asking "Can I do that too?" as "reaction."

In Ohio the reaction you would get depends entirely on where you are. People open carry in rural areas and in the field (not when deer hunting). But I can imagine people calling 911 if they see someone openly carrying in an urban area. Of course, the police would be obliged to respond and then the result would depend on the officers. Open carry is legal according to the state, but some local ordinances still apply until the recently passed reform goes into effect. Then there's also the whole "causing public panic" thing that could get you into trouble -- all because of public perception.

I wouldn't hesitate to carry openly on my property, or out in the field in places I have permission to be. I probably wouldn't try it in the city.

I live in MEMPHIS, TN where open carry is ok, but we are talking about MEMPHIS here. NO WAY am I gona open carry.

Open carry in Oklahoma is a big NO-NO so regretably I won't be joining y'all.

That said:

To those that plan to open carry in states where it is legal but not common I would advise that you find the appropriate law that permits open carry in your state and print a copy of it to show the cops when they show up and spread eagle you on the ground.

Not that it'll probably do any good but it sure couldn't hurt. Might be you draw a reasonable cop who would make a call into HQ before actually bustin' ya for something silly like disturbing the peace or creating a public nuisance or some other BS excuse to harass you.

Sigh ... here we go again.

Most (or all?) "open carry" states have no such law. Openly carrying a sidearm is simply not prohibited by any law, therefore it is legal, just like walking down the street with a feather in you cap or anything else.

By the way, in your state do you have a law explicitly permitting you to drive your car to the grocery store? :p
