Opinion on survival-coyote gun and caliber

I was just at the LGS yesterday. They are making up AR's with quick detach barrels and folder stocks. Barrel just slides into place and twists on. Literally takes maybe 3-4 seconds. Stock flips into place. Making an accurate, working rifle from something that almost fits in a shoe box takes maybe 10-15 seconds

The case they carry their demo in is about the dize of a shaving kit bag guys use for travel.

Not saying this is the best answer, but it's my answer.

CZ 527M/CSR with custom stock equipped with spare magazine holder. Granted 7.62x39mm might be a wee bit heavy for rabbit,( :) ), but with custom hand loads I can cover a lot of power options, and keep a ready magazine in reserve of anti-two legged predator ammo, just in case.

I wish there was a take-down 10/22 magnum...

My mind wanders into thoughts of the Remington 597 in .22 WMR.

Let's see, new 597 (.22 Mag) = $460.00

Rhineland Arms Para stock as a base = $65.00
(scroll down) http://www.troupsystems.com/rimfire para stocks.htm

AK-47 underfolder stock = $20.00

Make a mount for that under folder = ??

Pistol grip = $20.00

Cut and crown barrel to 16.25" = $45.00

Add red dot or scope

Could be the coolest compact .22 Magnum autoloader ever.

Handi Rifles are a decent option, but anything with glass you need to really not skimp on the mount and rings. A .204, .22 mag, .223, .243 or .22-250 are all available in varmint weight barrels. On older models you need to relieve the fore end and get a trigger job to get the best accuracy out of them. But that was 20 years ago.

Rossi made combo guns .243 win and second bbl 20 ga all in zippered bag. Break action design single shot but varmints way out there. And 20 ga mod choke for ? Combo can be had for$200 or so

Rossi Ranch Hand .357 mag

It's technically a pistol, but packs easy and will do some reaching.

Whatever you have. Or use coyotes as target practice for your deer rifle. H@R has a 357.
I really don't see the problem with carrying any size rifle on an ATV. Slugs in a shotgun?
A 243 would be a good caliber also. I use a 45/70. I shoot almost everything with it.

The rifled .410/.45 Colt barrel of the Rosi Circuit judge works great with the anti-rifling straight choke that stops the shot cup from rotating. I'd love to see something like that that can take .454 in single shot with either a second .22LR barrel or a rifled .22 insert. It would be great if you could put little C-clips on .45 ACP too.

The KelTec SU16C would work well for you. 25.5" OAL folded would fit diagonally in your cargo area. Mine shoots 2-3 MOA depending on ammo. Good enough for your purposes to 100 yards or so.

Packable survival rifle, to me, screams combo gun and one of my first picks would be a Savage 24 or a 42. The 24's can be had in several gage and caliber combinations. I have even seen one in 22 Hornet/20ga.
Amen to that! Savage 24 in .223/12 ga. or .223/20 ga. I've got both and both rifles barrels are MOA capable at 100 yds. with iron sights. Only two drawbacks:
1) If you put a scope on one, the utility of the shotgun barrel is cut to a fraction.
2) The shotgun barrel probably won't impact the target any where near where the rifle barrel does.
