I tried searching the forum but didn't find what i was looking for.

Im wondering what the quality of Dan Wesson's 1911 pistols are. Ive been trying but cant seem to find anything bad about them. Are they reliable? I worry about them being "match grade" and thus have tightened tolerances and decreased carry Performance. Im looking hard at the PM7 and Razorback (leaning towards the PM7) in 10mm.

I was bitten by the 10mm and 1911 bug lately and was ecstatic to find them in the same package! I was expecting the 10mm to be a polymer pistol round.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT TELL ME TO GET A GLOCK!

It's your choice.

Seems quite appropriate to use god and glock in the same sentence.

There is a regular slew of people on this forum who carry Dan Wesson CBOBs. If you do a forum search on "CBOB" you will surely find evidence to that effect.

They are great, I have two. There is a wealth of knowledge over on 1911forum about DW's and all other 1911's. The fit and finish on them rival 1911's costing significantly more. ALso tightly fitted, reliable, and accurate. In my experience with them, you cant go wrong. They also have several new models out for 09. If you are going to use it for a carry weapon they also have the 10mm in a Commander Bobtail! For the amount of money they cost and the quality of gun you get is unmatched by any other 1911 maker IMO

Im noticing that. From what i can see the attention to detail is pretty high and the Guns are dead on what im willing to spend on a reliable 1911 type. Ill get over to the 1911 forums. For some reason i didnt think to look there :D

Love my DW Pointman 7! It's my first (and so far only) 1911 model. Unfortunately, if I could go back and repurchase, I think I'd get the DW CBOB. Which means, at some point, I will be adding another 1911 to my collection . . . :D (nothing at all against the PM-7 - it's just that the CBOB is a bit more carry-friendly, especially in a shoulder holster.) Can't go wrong with a DW, no matter which model you get.

the CBOB is definately on my "to buy" list for the upcoming year. the only reason i prefer it to the PM-7 is that i don't care for the forward slide serrations.

i've only heard good things from friends who have purchased a DW 1911 and CZ is standing behind their product

Although one could carry a PM-7 or RZ-10, it would be soooo much easier to carry a CBOB. You can get them in 10mm or .45 ACP. Sharp edges have been beveled, and the bobtailed MSH does make a difference in printing for me. Also, the 3/4" that is shaved off the barrel does not seem to affect accuracy for me, and does make for an easier to carry 1911.

Here is my .45:

Fit and finish are absolutely superb. It comes with fixed night sights vs. the adjustable target sights that come on the PM-7 or RZ-10. My sights are dead on from the factory. The trigger is great, the accuracy is superb, and even though everything is tight as a vault, the thing has been absolutely 100% reliable from day 1, even through break-in. Will eat any JHP I have thrown its way, and will even feed empties without so much as a complaint.

You can have match grade accuracy and reliability out of the same package, and the CBOB is proof IMO.

Check out the slide to frame fit:

This will not be my last DW.

They are very nice... I like the CBOB but I like Colts better.... They hold their value better.

Although time will tell if the new CNC Colts are as nice as the older ones.

Jason;

Looks AMAZING! That is a ridiculous Slide to Frame fit. I might have to check out the CBOB. Ive never tried to conceal a full sized 1911.

On both my Valor and my PM9 the slide to frame fit is seamless, as in you can barely tell its 2 pieces of steel. These puppies are tight.

Yep. And the barrel lugs are fit just as nicely.

Colts will probably hold their resale value more. I looked at the Colts before buying this CBOB, in particular the Series-70 repros and the XSE. The fit and finish of the Colts are very good, but not as nice as the Dan Wessons. The Colt would be a fine choice, but I feel like you get more for your money with the DW. If you plan on selling it later, then the Colt may be the better choice.

+1 on the 10mm CBOB. I won't bother posting pictures, since mine aren't nearly as well executed as Jason_G's, but my CBOB has been a very nice performer since I got it. I haven't seen any issues with reliability, though I'll admit that the cost of 10mm ammo is such that I haven't run the CBOB as hard as I would a 9mm or 45 ACP pistol. Still, it's done well with both lower power range ammo as well as hot Double Tap loads without any fuss or drama.

i dont plan on selling later, which is why colt was a small consideration. I also looked into the XSE and series 70/WWII Reproduction. I think that you pay more for the name than you do for the gun with them though.

I was also looking at the Springfield mil-spec, but i started looking into the 10mm and was enamored. Being that Colt nor Springfield make a 10mm, all bets were off :D

the one thing i worry about with the 10mm is putting in a 22-24lb spring and trying to shoot low power surplus ammo out of it; will this affect the action or will the lower powered loads still cycle the weapon?

Mine definitely has a weaker ejection throw with the stronger spring and low power range ammo, but I haven't had any stoppages with that combination yet. I'd say it prefers hot loads but seems to handle the light stuff okay.

I knew if I stayed and read enough posts I'd get to see a pistol that I "had to have"!
As my middle aged middle and butt spread, a full sized 1911 pokes me in some places that are less than comfortable.

That DW COMMANDER CLS BOBTAIL in 10mm has my interest now.

Now comes the fun of finding one for sale.

Thanks for the info guys.

Been carrying these two DW 10mm's for years. I wouldn't have anything else.
