There was a spree shooting at Clackamas Town Center mall yesterday. Points of interest:

1. CTC is on 82nd Ave, on the East side. Clackamas is basically part of Portland. This mall sits right off of I-205, and as one of three big malls in Portland, attracts people from all over the Portland metro area.

2. The mall has posted "no firearms" signs. In Oregon, no action can be taken unless a person who is carrying is asked to leave, and then refuses. Consequently, the signs only deter open carry, or CHL holders who are unaware.

3. At the time of the GAO report on national concealed carry, Oregon had an active CHL for 1 out of every 20 adults in the State.

4. The Clackamas County Sheriff office is 1 block from the mall parking lot.

5. Early reports indicate 2 fatalities and 9 wounded. One of the fatalities is said to be the shooter, who killed himself.

6. The shooter wore a hockey mask and tactical looking apparel (some claiming "armor"), and carried an AR-15. As in Colorado, the weapon is believed to have jammed.

7. People who tried to escape through department stores found that they were locked in.

8. Through the grapevine, I've confirmed that there were at least a few armed CHL holders present. They opted to get to safety, which is clearly sensible.

That's what I have, so far.

Please, please let this shooter have been taken down by a CCW holder on the premises. We already know from news reports that the responding officers didn't fire any shots. It seems odd to don tactical clothing and a hockey mask and then shoot yourself after only firing approximately 20 rounds. But, crazy is crazy I guess.

"PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The gunman who killed two people and himself in a shooting rampage at an Oregon mall was 22 years old and used a stolen rifle from someone he knew, authorities said Wednesday.

Jacob Tyler Roberts had armed himself with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and had several fully loaded magazines when he arrived at a Portland mall on Tuesday, said Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts.

The sheriff said the rifle jammed during the 22-year-old's attack, but he managed to get it working again. He later shot himself. The sheriff said authorities don't yet have a motive."

One thread like this has already been shut down. THR isn't the sort of place for reporting news reports about shootings.

It hits a little close to home for me. I use to shop at that mall in high school during Christmas time. I know it can happen anywhere but when it happens in a place you are familiar with, it seems that much more scary.
