Ouchies..another reason I prefer revolvers

When shooting an AR lefty if you're like me and hold your right elbow at 3 o clock, tape your BDU sleeve closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

And about the ejection thing...worst I've ever seen was a Soviet PPSh41. There is a reason why they held it an arm's length in front of them while firing...

I officially dubbed my boonie hat as "the range hat" once I discovered that my 1911 likes to eject nearly straight up -- and about a second later the empty will come down and thump me directly on the dome. I figure that was my early warning, so now I consider myself well-covered.

The only other really stupid thing I did (that I can remember) was about 3 years ago. I had shot a string with my BHP and was now empty, so I returned to my ammo bag. While doing so, I fumbled, and the VERY hot barrel seated itself firmly in between the middle and ring fingers of my left hand. Holy :cuss: that hurt.

me too

I was wearing a baseball cap (and ear plugs and ear muffs) and the shooter to my left still managed to get a 40 cal shell behind my safety glasses, side shields and all. It came to rest between the lens and my cheek. My first thought was "now here comes the pain" but fortunatly it didn't burn. Talk about a distraction though.

Bouncing off the wall?

lee n. field, yah, off the baffle. When I'm at the outdoor range, I just pick the farthest bench to the right as I can find and warn bystanders. There should be a distance competition for Makarovs and brass flinging.

I've just gotten used to being hit by the shells. but i often get spark burn from revolvers and that's why i don't like them (asides from the capacity and not knowing when they are empty).

I've got a nice 1911 hammer-bite scar on the webbing between my thumb and index finger on my right hand, a scar from a 45ACP case resting on my left forearm, a couple of scars on the inside of my elbow from 22LR brass finding it a nice place to sit after coming out of the gun, I may even have a few other scars from hot brass that I don't even remember.....on the other hand, I've got LOTS of scars from riding my motorcycles over the years....Must be the hobbies I choose. :D

Plus you may wish to keep your shirt collar tight as well. Enough time at the range and you may experience hot brass most any place it might fit. It's just a matter of time.

Ain't that the truth.

A while back I was in a particular mood after work, so I drove on down to the range. My range is always a little on the warmish side, so I just took off my tie and rolled up my sleeves. Didn't think for a second about it.

So the guy two lanes down is practicing precision shooting, I think with a CZ-75. He was so wrapped up into it though that he would slide back a few inches every so often, until he would pass the wall and send brass my way. I wasn't too worried about it, I'd just get his attention and let him know what he'd done, and he'd move back into position.

About the third time he did this though he managed to send one right down the front collar of my shirt. That burning little piece of metal slides right across my chest and comes to rest right below my bellybutton. I then learned an important lesson.

If you have hot brass sitting on your belly, and you're wearing a tucked in shirt, make sure you actually untuck the shirt. WHATEVER YOU DO, don't just grab your waistband and pull it forward to get the hot brass off your belly. It can, and will, cause a somewhat serious burn to two of the most sensitive parts of your body.

yup did that too

some jerk's ppk sent a 9x19 hot casing straight down the front of my shirt from three tables away. coursed down my chest, past my abs (at that time I actually had abs, now I have a protective gut) and into the cranny of my waist and jeans button. i frantically tried to grab it through my clothes, and wound up instead dropping it right into my crotch.

fearing further "drop", I squinched my eyes shut and endured the most agonizing two minutes of my then 17 year old life as I cooled the casing with my skin and hair.

...

and that other time a .223 went down my back, got lodged in my pants, and left a 2 1/2 inch long scar that my buddies still tease me about right above my butt-crack. (is butt-crack safe for thr?)
