Out of your loaded guns at home, what is the most serious?

First up is the 'bedside table companion', a Springy 1911-A1 Champion model, followed by the Maverick/Mossberg 88, with 5 rounds of 3" Mag #4 Buck.

Then it is time for the Most Serious Artillery...The US Rifle Cal .30 M1 Popularly Known As "The Garand"

Delta gold cup (10mm) loaded with 135gr hornady XTPs (approx. 1500fps) and a .223 cal AK type (Pistol grip converted Saiga)
loaded with milspec M193 ammo.
Either ought to do whatever I ask them to quite well.

All of mine are always loaded. But as for first in line up:

My sp101 is always on me unless I'm swimming or showering. The always within arms reach at home is an 12ga. 870 w/3 00buck, 2 1oz. slugs, with a bandolier holding 10 00buck and 10 slugs.

Any loaded firearm in the hands of someone who knows how to use it is serious enough to handle almost any home defense situation, so makes, models, and calibers are simply a matter of personal preference. My bedroom gun varies but more often than not it's a S&W Model 64. However for answering unexpected knocks at the door I keep my 642 handy 24/7.

Berreta 1201FP semi-auto shotgun. If I have to worry about someone in my house, this is a serious as I get. When they are outside, that's another thread.

I usualy have my Taurus 85ti handy at all times either on me or really close by. I keep it loaded with Federal Hydra-Shock 129gr+p's, although that will change to Speer 135gr Golddots as soon as my dealer gets them. Then in a speed safe I keep a Glock 23 loaded with Winchester 180gr Ranger SXT's with a M3 tactical light mounted to it and a Surefire Z2 combat light sitting next to them both, along with a spare mag. In the same speed safe I also keep a Kimber Tactical Pro II loaded with 230gr Ranger SXT's and extra Mag. In the closet is a Remington 870 loaded with Ranger 00 buck.

For sheer intimidation factor, you'd be hard pressed to beat my Mossberg 12ga pump or Desert Eagle in .44. (And just wait until I get the .50 barrel!!! :D )

I wouldn't necessarily grab the DE first for defensive use, but if it were all I had, I sure wouldn't be disappointed. :)

ALL of my guns are loaded, all of the time.

First in line is my Glock 34, which is loaded & chambered and holstered all the time.
127gr +P+ Winchester Rangers are proven against just about everything, including auto glass.

Second is my red-dot equiped Remington 7400 in .30-06. 10 round mags full of 150gr ballistic tips. Factory 4 round mag full of M2 Armour Piercing (tungsten core) black-tips. Yeah, I'm paranoid. I don't want to use this indoors, I'll be temporarily deaf and probally blind.

Last in line would be my 12 lb .338 Lapua Magnum Armalite AR-30. Mag loaded with 5 rounds of 250gr Scenars (BTHP) at 3,000fps, with over 5,000lb/ft of muzzle energy. I *really* don't want to have to use this one indoors! (and based on complete penetration of 3/4" plate at *500yds* using *Ball ammo*, I would say overpenetration would be 'of slight concern...'

I don't keep the rifles chambered because they're not very drop-safe.

Most serious = Remington 12 gague 870 Marine Magnum

Most serious handgun = 5" barrel Smith & Wesson 629-5

Most serious self-loader = .45 caliber SIG-SAUER P220A

Most serious mousegun = NAA .22 magnum "mini" 1-1/8" bbl

Best Wishes,

If you are really tactical ya have an intercom/camera and don't go near the door to answer it. ;)

Usually have a loaded 870 w buck/slugs and 1911 w 230 JHPs handy. An M1A w 20 round mag of 168g match BTHP ammo is on stand-by (w bayonet).

If I don't want to wake the neighbors, I string up the old Bear Kodiak Magnum recurve bow and nock some old Bear Razorheads... :D
