Hey folks,

The Hornady LNL AP progressive press has been in production since 1997, and I was curious as to how many of these presses have been made since then along with how the production numbers changed throughout the twelve plus years they have been on the market. About a week or so ago I started a thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=498108) asking folks for serial numbers and purchase dates on their LNL presses. So far I have gathered the information for the following folks and their presses:

--------------------------------- Original Type -------------------
---Serial #-----When Bought------Case Kicker-----Member Reporting
----1,525-----June?----1997------Wire eject-------Dave Wile
----8,866-----May-----2005-----------------------Canuck IL
---11,027-----Jan------2008------Wire eject-------Wilburt
---11,885--------------2008?-----Wire eject-------Walkalong
---13,xxx--------------2008?----------------------KY Jelly
---13,491-----June-----2008------Wire eject-------101 Voo Doo
---13,050-----Feb-----2008-------Wire eject-------Randy
---13,978-----July-----2008-------Wire eject-------Dynamite Rabbit (Lee)
---14,281-----Aug-----2008-------Wire eject-------RNG (Richard)
---16,5xx-----Dec-----2008------------------------Mongoose
---17,410-----Feb-----2009------------------------Jeff Brown
---18,608-----April-----2009-----------------------Wild Willy (Bill)
---18,930-----May-----2009-----------------------Broken Wheel
---20,777-----Oct-----2009------------------------Floydster (Floyd)
---20,900-----Dec-----2009-----------------------KB2
---22,151-----Dec-----2009-------EZ-Ject---------NRA-Highmaster
---22,295-----Nov-----2009------------------------Dodge DeBoulet
---22,4xx-----Nov-----2009------------------------Crashbox
---23,300-----Dec-----2009------------------------The Hat

When I started that thread, I was in Florida and did not know the exact serial number for my own press and reported it as being somewhere between 1,200 and 1,500. I am now back home and just checked to see that my serial number is actually 1,525, and it was purchased about June of 1997.

So far, I have learned the original wire case ejection system was in use up to serial number 13,050 which was purchased in Feb of 2008, but I cannot determine when the new EZ-Ject was first initiated. Canuck IL reported the primer system upgrade came at or about serial number 7,000.

A few folks reported their serial numbers with "Xs" in the last two or three positions, and I have substituted "0s" for the "Xs" in each case. If you can report your whole serial number, we can keep a more accurate time line for the production and sale of these units. If that seems to be a problem for anyone, please provide as much as you are comfortable with.

If you have any particular knowledge about the various changes made to the LNL system along the way, please note such changes, and I will note them accordingly. I am keeping the information reported on a simple M-Soft Excel spreadsheet, and I will be happy to send a copy of same to anyone who want to E-Mail me requesting a copy.

I started this thread with what I hope is a more attention getting title to attract more LNL owners to respond.

I thank you all for your attention and participation in this project.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Hornady started offering the EZ-ject in Jan. 2009. Don't know the serial # though. I converted mine to EZ-ject in June of '09.

Hey KB2 & Randy,

I added KB2's number & date as well as Randy's new info on the EZ-Ject. I have not added the long worded info to the list above, but I have added it to the Excel data base I am building. The information Randy provided is noted on the same row behind his name in the data base. Again, thanks.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Hey folks,

I am pretty sure I have everyone's information provided thus far. Please note that for those who provided additional information not on the list below, I did not ignore it. I have noted such information on my spreadsheet, but it is too difficult to put in the list I am showing on this thread and repeated below:

--------Hornady LNL AP Serial Numbers & Dates Purchased---------
--------------------------------- Original Type -------------------
---Serial #-----When Bought------Case Kicker-----Member Reporting
----1,525-----June?----1997------Wire eject-------Dave Wile

---11,778-----Aug------2007------Wire eject-------SPW1
---11,885--------------2008?-----Wire eject-------Walkalong
---13,xxx--------------2008?----------------------KY Jelly
---13,491-----June-----2008------Wire eject-------101 Voo Doo

---13,978-----July-----2008-------Wire eject-------Dynamite Rabbit (Lee)
---14,281-----Aug-----2008-------Wire eject-------RNG (Richard)
---16,5xx-----Dec-----2008------------------------Mongoose

---22,4xx-----Nov-----2009------------------------Crashbox
---23,300-----Dec-----2009------------------------The Hat

So far, there have only been two reports of serial numbers below the 11,000 number and 2008 date. Obviously there must be folks out there who bought about 11,000 units between 1997 and 2008, and it would be nice to hear from them. If anyone has any ideas of how to get more folks to participate, please do not hesitate to tell me what I might do or try.

Most folks are now reporting their whole serial numbers and do not seem to mind, and I am starting to get more folks responding with what type of case kicker, powder measure, and primer system came with their machine. Remember though, while I am keeping the information on the spreadsheet, I am not reporting it in this thread because it does not fit well. Again, I am keeping all information reported on a simple M-Soft Excel spreadsheet, and I will be happy to send a copy of same to anyone who sends me an E-Mail requesting a copy.

I thank you all for your attention and participation in this project.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Hey folks,

With over 24,000 of these units sold since 1997, I would hope some more folks would provide information on their units. I know this isn't the most important analysis ever done, but the rate of production over the years does seem interesting to me. The data below represents the latest reported thus far:

--------Hornady LNL AP Serial Numbers & Dates Purchased---------
--------------------------------- Original Type -------------------
---Serial #-----When Bought------Case Kicker-----Member Reporting
----1,525-----June?----1997------Wire eject-------Dave Wile

---24,xxx-----Jan------2010------------------------Macnewbie

What follows are additional comments made by the members that do not fit well with the listing above, but they are of interest in their own right:

---Canuck, IL - Reports that change in primer system came at serial number 7,000.
---Walkalong - Has a Pro-Jector with serial # 18,396. He also says the $29 he spent for his EZ-Ject upgrade was worth the expense.
---Randy - States that Hornady started offering the EZ-Ject system in Jan 2009. Serial number unknown. Converted his to EZ-Ject in June 09.
---Dodge DeBoulet - Indicated his press came with 3 powder drop tubes, two primer slides & seating punches; also indicated his powder screw tubes are not micrometer style which seems to be an add on purchase.
---Ole Farmer Buck - Hornady told him they started the EZ-Ject system with serial number 15,000, so his press at 15,168 is one of the first presses with EZ-Ject. He also reports he just got his 2nd LNL press Jan 2010.
---RNG (Richard) Upgraded to EZ-Ject in October 2009 and considers it money well spent.
---Gryffydd - Powder measure comes with baffle now. Purchased from Graff's.
---1911pewpew - Purchased from Midway.

Again it would be nice to have more data, and it would be nice to have further comments as listed above.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Dave, any idea how many respondents upgraded their Wire eject to EZ-Ject?

Did mine yesterday, took 10-15 minutes or so. Well worth the $29.

Agreed, money well spent. Upgraded mine in October 2009

Hey folks,

Thanks for the additional information. I added Broker's & Rkohut's press info into the list. Also, at the bottom of the list, I added the additional comments folks have made that did not readily fit into the list.

VooDoo, RNG, & Walkalong - The list above has all the information provided to me thus far. I am sure there are a bunch of folks who have upgraded to EZ-Ject, but this is all I have received thus far.

I have not upgraded to the EZ-Ject because my wire eject system works just fine with all the calibers I use, and that includes about nine or ten shell plates. Then I think Walk said that if you do upgrade, you have to have your shellplates reworked at $x each after the first two or three. So let me ask you guys, if my wire eject system works fine for everything I load, is there any other reason or reasons for upgrading to the EZ-Ject? Also, remember that my press is a really old one with all its original parts including the original primer system. I did replace one shellplate spring since purchasing it in 1997, and there was no charge for that. All I can say is it works fine. Now, what do you guys think about changing to the EZ-Ject, and in the same thought, what about the new priming system? Even the lower unit of my case activated powder dispenser is a bit different than what they use now. I'm glad for Jim and Walk that the EZ-Ject has been good for them, but if my old stuff works well, is there any really good reason for me to change?

Ole Farmer Buck - Thanks for the infor when they started EZ-Ject, but would you mind telling us your serial number and purchase date? If you have a problem with that, don't feel obligated. Obviously there are a lot of other folks who have LNLs and have not provided their information for whatever reason. In any case, the information you provided is useful as far as I am concerned.

Also, in the hope of reaching more LNL owners, I recently started a similar thread over on the TFL Relaoding Forum. So far, no one has responded there. I would think there would be hundreds of folks sending in their information, but maybe there are fewer folks on the forums than I thought. In any case, thanks again, and I hope you all may find the information interesting.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Purchased mine from Grafs in December of 09, S/N is 23,4xx.
One thing I noticed is that the powder measure comes with a baffle now. From what I've seen that was one of the complaints about it before.

Yep, no problem here. Mine is 15???. I was loading 45 acp tonight and told myself to write it down and...well you guessed it. I forgot. Anyway, i will try to get it tomorrow. I think its 15168 but not sure. I got it the 23rd or 24th of Dec 2008. I do remember it was one of the first to have the new eject. I got another new one just yesterday but havent opened the box yet.
