Seems just when I get settled I pack up and migrate again.

7yrs ago moved away from KY to a rental in TN
6 yrs ago moved from rental to a home we bought.
5 yrs ago we adopted kids and most of the reloading gear got locked away.
2 years ago I packed up and moved to a different part of TN for a different job which I’m still doing.
Now I’m about to pack up again and migrate back to Ky.

I should be good at this mess by now. Problem is that I keep accumulating. Oh well, the next house has a huge shop so I can spread out and have a nice bench to work on.

I don't envy you! I'm hoping to never move again. But life does throw you curve balls.

Less than a year after my wife and I got married and bought our first house we moved across the state. Bought and sold two more houses in the next seven years, losing a bundle when we were paying two mortgages because we couldn't unload the last one. My wife, God bless her, never once complained about having to look for a new job whenever we moved for my career. Hopefully we'll move one last time when I retire in a couple years. That house will definitely have more room for reloading and other tinkering.

Good luck on the move, and shop!!!

I’ve been in the same house 31 years. A rental while we were building it. 6 years in the previous house. Lived in 2 houses growing up.

At 63, I’ve only really moved 3 times, including as a kid. I don’t count the rentals while buying a house or building a house.

I have had 2 work rentals but I came home most weekends so they were places to crash because of work.

In the middle of a move ourselves, and living in a camp trailer during. All my reloading stuff is packed up, and I'm seriously missing my hobby. Glad to have the high road so I can live vicariously through all of you guys. I have a growing list of load development projects, hope I can dig out a press sometime soon!

This move is supposed to be permanent, and our current house was our residence for ten years. We have too much stuff.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees huge shop and stops there. I barely was able to walk through the house with the realtor before we went to the shop. House is nice, will be great for the family. The shop is a 16ft cieling wonder that is free standing about 30 by 60 in the main bay (which has a 2 post lift that stays) with a loft being used as an office. The side bay is probably 16 by 40 with a 10ft cieling. Plenty room for all kinds of reloading bench, gunsmith bench, Harley bench… I’m gonna have to step up my tool game to utilize the space, but I finally have room for a lathe and knee mill, so in time I will buy those. I’m super excited about having room to work again.

Huge shop=more stuff for your next move in 5 years.

Good luck .
It's tough.
I've moved a few times and it's chaos, I'll be here until my kids are grown (they're 3 & 5).
I have however moved my tool box 3 times in less than 2 years and one last time coming this friday ( all those moves for the same company) but it's a giant PITA since it has to travel by tow truck and there's always some minor damage . getting everything setup for me to actually work takes a couple days too.

Hope everything goes smooth for ya and you all settle in quick.

Navy Brat. Moved a few times.....
Did the Air Force when I left home, single so moved every two years or so. Didn't accumulate much.
Got out, did a few moves, got married (she's wonderful), bought a house. Amazing the "Stuff" that accumulates over twenty years. (Apologies to The Gong Show....)
Retired, moved 1200 miles. Filled a dumpster, gave more away. Still hauled way too much.
Seventy-one now and retired. One more move to do, about eighteen-twenty years down the road. Gonna fill another dumpster, sell the house, and get a small apartment to finish out my time on this rock.
Hate moving, but sometimes external events force your hand.
In the middle of all this - I have had a pile of "Howling Good Times". Looking forward to more.

Yuk! I feel for you, nothing is worse than a move.

I did it a lot as a kid, a few more times as a young adult. But since buying my first house in 1992 I have moved only one time since, that was in 2004.

It would take a forklift and a few pallets to move all my ammo and reloading supplies now :(.

Good luck, let us know how the shop works out once you get settled.

Stay safe.

I feel sorry for my son after they run me thru the oven. He's gotta move all this stuff......
On second thought, all the crap I put up with from him thru the yrs, no I dont....

Good luck with the move and that new shop sounds absolutely fantastic. That alone makes it worth it

I moved all I'm going to move. We are in the third and final house. This one is our retirement home, it has no steps. We have been getting it ready for us to retire in, new roof, new water lines, repaired drains, only thing that is left is new carpet, but we will do that after I retire. Hopefully that will be coming sometime between January 1st and March 1st of next year. We'll see.
Good luck with your new house and congrats on the big shop. That make the rest more bearable.

I don’t envy you, last time I moved, we did the house in a day and it took me 6 months to move (go through) my stuff. Doesn’t matter how big your shop is, you can still fill it up if your not careful. It’s a continuous job for me but I save just about everything I might be able to use someday.

It's all fun and games until you start casting and you have to figure out if bulk lead is cost effective to move... good thing I never found a cheap supply. :) I feel Ya I'm moving 1k miles in the next two months....
I do. I have only accumulated about 600 pounds of lead. Most is unprocessed wheel weights in buckets.

..........I save just about everything I might be able to use someday.

That's a terrible disease that I have too. I'm never going to move, but I am already feeling guilty that my kids have to deal with all my crap someday not so far away......

WestKentucky: Best wishes in your new place.....one more chance to figure out what's most important in this ole life. Me? I'm old enough to be thinking what I'm going to be doing on the "other" side..... Hoping that move is.....up. ;) Adopting those kids is a good step towards up......They are pure gold. Be thankful for that blessing! How you do with them may just make all the difference....good on you!
