This is a nice place too, but it's a private club you have to join. It's a long drive though. I'm in Parker, and it's an hour for me, so you guys in the north part of Denver probably wouldn't like it, but we do have members from all over. www.blgc.org

Does anybody know of a site like this a bit closer to Denver? I was planning on going there tomorrow until I looked at the distance on Googlemaps, which says its 99 miles each way, ouch.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Soon after posting this i found my answer at www.huntandshoot.org , it gives a good list of all the pay ranges around the state, or any state. Unfortunately it doesnt seem to list any free ranges.

Please define "closer to Denver". The Metro area here is huge, a lot depends on where you're at.

But really, there's not any close outdoors ranges where you can just go shootin', or they'd be overran with gangbangers and garbage shooters. If you want a nice place to play, you have to pay. The Pawnee Grasslands is such a long drive that discourages a lot of the fools, but there's still plenty that go there.

There's a public range at Cherry Creek State Park, but it's expensive, there's lots of rules, and still lots of fools.

I can tell you of other places, but none within 100 miles.

.

As of a year ago anyway, yes, you can just drive up, get out, and shoot
whatever ya brung.

Im at University and I25.
I was thinking within 100 miles or less, pref much less. I have been to cherry creek a few times, a few times too many and i should have bought a season pass instead. Ive outgrown the 100 yard range.
Thanks again for the help, I may just drive to Pawnee tomorrow, 2 hours in each direction is pretty discouraging, even for someone who wants to go shoot responsibly.

Thanks again.

I have gone up there for years. Its mostly ok but you do have to count on the good behavior of everyone else. It does get fairly crowded sometimes.

There has been a justified effort to get more of the Grasslands off limits to shooting because so many people just trash the place, leave brass, shells and garbage behind. When I go I always carry out one bag of junk. It won't be long before it becomes our next left hand canyon and is closed to shooting.

There is a nice range here www.pawneesports.com

You can shoot rifle or pistol for $15 in a controlled environment.

It is still a long way out but it beats thinking you may catch a stray bullet from the same slobs who are trashing the grasslands.

I concur with Zac. Being in Colorado Springs, I like to shoot on Mt. Herman, up Gold Camp Road, etc. We also have Rampart Range Road. There is a public shooting range a few miles up from Garden of the Gods, however you get a few fools up there and they like to leave their trash. They also make me nervous with some of their shooting practices.
