I have many regular handguns chambered in autoloading pistol calibers in 9mm, 45 ACP and 10mm....and plenty of Rifles in your typical rifle calibers.....and didn't really "blur the lines" so to speak until about 3 years ago, where I acquired a CMMG Banshee chambered in 10mm. Ill get back to that in a moment...

For all practical tactical purposes, to me anyways, the AR pistol regardless of barrel length or caliber is still a "long gun". They must be stored or kept in a location to be retrieved if needed, the same as you would a long gun. (However in my state, CCW holders may have a loaded AR pistol in certain places, such as in a vehicle, where a true rifle or shotgun if kept in that condition, it would be in violation of the law)
**This is not a legal discussion FWIW**
That alone intrigued me to get one of these handy tools to pack around if desired.

To me, AR pistols in 5.56 caliber, or AKs in 7.62x39 are, well..... to put it nicely.... not exactly efficient in their use of gunpowder burning since their chamberings were designed in at least 20-22" barrels (Think SKS and Original M-16s)
You cut this length in half or MORE for your AK/AR pistols. The result is muzzle flash, excessive blast, enough noise to make your ears bleed and your teeth rattle, and terminal performance to leave much desired when compared to the Original designs. Sorry I'm ranting, you all know this stuff already....

The 300 AAC Blackout has been many's answer to solve some of the above issues, and really does its job well. It can use many of the plethora of .30 caliber projectiles out there, can use standard AR magazines, shoots sub-sonic extremely well, and or the most part, utilizes a faster burning powder in order to get efficient use out of say 10" barrels. (Did I mention how much I love WW-296?)

For me, I never did go in the direction of the 300 Blackout, and there's a good chance I never will, since this is a very "niche" role in my Arsenal, and I really like to keep things streamlined in my calibers and reloading equipment, etc.

Since I already own 2 -10mm pistols, the Glock 40 MOS and G20 with plenty of ammunition already on hand, with the reloading dies, supplies etc. Once I learned about the CMMG Banshee in 10mm and the fact it accepted Glock Magazines, I was sold instantly. 16453095321611756786736736938841.jpg

I enjoy the full powered loads pushing 180gr. bullets of whatever type 1350fps. or more for over 720 ft. lbs of energy. I do not fire maximum potential "nuclear" loads out the CMMG 10mm for the extra 50fps. in velocity it gives, although the gun can do it if needed without worry. The reason I dont, is the unsupported chamber area of this platform will really bulge the brass sidewall near the case head beyond where it can be reloaded, so I dial them back just a bit to where the brass doesn't bulge. If one ever wanted to go sub-sonic with 10mm, there are some 200 and 220gr weight bullet options out there to keep in mind.

To wrap this up....I'm getting double the power of your average 9mm pistol out of a 30 round AR platform that's highly reliable, and shares the same rounds and magazines for some common hand guns (my favorites) that might just tag along with it. I'm not getting the same power as a 300 BLK, but I'll take the compromise for the several advantages it gives, and as far as the power offered from the 10, I could do a helluva' lot worse.

I load and shoot 9mm. I shoot 9mm in my carry pistol, also a competition pistol, Witness Elite Limited Custom.

It was a natural for me to ad a 9mm Pcc or two. My first pcc is the PSA AR-V9 which has an 8 inch barrel and uses Cz Scorpion mags. Really great shooter. My second pcc is PTR 9CT (Mp5 clone). The 9CT has low recoil, has been very accurate and dependable. Feels like you're shooting 22lr.

That reminds me I enjoy 22lr as well so I added the HK Mp5 22lr (made by Umerex)

I enjoy my Palmetto 9mm, I reload different COL for it and works fine. Fun to shoot and feels like a .22. Pal 9mm.JPG

I don't personally see a purpose for a 9mm carbine, (the ones that are full auto make sense). If the stakes ever get upped where a long gun is needed, then I'm going to want an upgrade in power level to come with it. Whether this be out hunting for food, or if needed for a self defense situation.

I see the fun in 9mm carbines, cheap/easy to shoot, but so are .22s. That said, 9mm is my primary caliber used for handguns both concealed or full sized.

I agree having my rifle is the ideal situation especially if defending my home but I can see possible need and benefit if need to bug out being able to grab a pistol and carbine that use same mags and conceal very easy so transport and being inconspicuous are easy. For me that’s grabbing my G29 and Banshee 10mm and as many loaded mags as can carry.

I have two PCC's, with a 10mm Hi Point coming probably sometime this year because I like 10mm and a carbine in 10mm is hella powerful for a PCC, but the other two are a 9mm AR for fun at the range and a .40 Sub 2000 that is nice to have nearby and concealed. I can see why people like the idea of 9mm carbines because most people have a 9mm pistol and the ammo is/was cheap. I went with the .40 Kel Tec because I liked that rifle and its folding ability, but wanted it in the biggest caliber available and at the time I was big into 40 S&W.

After the 10mm comes, I have no more interest or need for a PCC, but there are certainly those out there who will try and say they're useless or otherwise a poor choice to own and that .300 or .223 or whatever bottleneck rifle caliber is just so much more better... it's a different strokes argument. Back when I got into PCC's I just thought to myself if all I had was handgun ammo available, would I really want to rely on a pistol to shoot it or would a rifle be better? Further, I can reload more 10mm or .40 in the same amount of time as .223 or .300 and the brass lasts longer too.

I think 10mm PCC's are unappreciated and offer something no other pistol caliber does in a rifle and the versatility is adds does more for me than .300 ever will.

I own a CZ Scorpion and a Kel Tec Sub2k Gen2 that I purchased for range fun, but I am not interested in 9mm rounds at least in a PCC for self defense unless it has a fun switch. I rather have a rifle caliber. I don't really care about whether all the power is being burnt or if the round isn't reaching it's 100% full potential. All I care about is whether the round preform well enough at the self defense distances.

Unburnt power and loss of velocity aside, 223/556, 300blk, and x39 out of a 10.5" or so barrel will preform and cause much more damage than a pistol caliber. If it's good enough and works for military, police, and special forces around the world, it is good enough for me. As far as muzzle flash goes, use a reputable flash hider to mitigate that.

I shoot PCCs cuase I like to! I already load 9mm for handgun. The range I belong to has 2, 12 plate racks. Mowing down plates with my Mp5 clone is fun. Like doin it with my PSA Ar-v9 as well. The Ar-v has more recoil. Its also great fun knocking them down with a 22lr. I don't use these guns for self defense.

I keep my carry gun on the night stand for things that go bump in the night.

Now I may use my newest firearm a PSA 10.5 inch AR15 pistol I recently put together. 10.5 inch pistol length upper (with flash can) that came with magpul buis and a Holosun 403b. I purchased a PSA pistol lower to mate this with. I had a couple Ar15 mags but added a couple pmags. I sighted it in at the rifle range, it shot great and didn't seem overly loud to me.

This is when I first got the Ruger PCC Charger. Since then fore grip replaced with Stream lite TLR 8 Light/laser and a Sig Brace added to swing to the right and an extended left side charge handle added . I am surprised that the Ruger DOES have as much recoil as it does, not sharp but it is there it has a very heavy dead blow bolt but is unlocked . I am waiting on the suppressor for it so it now wears a KAW Valley flash can which works pretty well. It produces around 4" 100 yard groups with the ball ammo I blast in it . Perfect reliablity with Glock mags up to 33 rounds ! I have a Glock 26 and a G19 and family members have other Glock 9mms with compatible magazines.

My wife shoots a G19 ... So it was only natural for her to love a AR-9 that uses the same Glock magazines she does. Nothing really special, a ATI AR-9.
Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have a BHO on the last round. She doesn't seem to care.

The 7.62x39 and 300 blackout are velocity wise not so bad in short barrels, The x39 is very noisy and have quite a kick.
I suggest you look up velocity loss with these calibers in short barrel.

New CMMG MkGS 300 in .40 S&W 'The Junkyard Dog' arrived today. I transferred my Trij and Streamlight over and added BUIs and a sling.

Cmmg makes a really great AR in pistol calibers. I bet .40 is great to shoot as well. I know they do some type of recoil mitigation.

They are also located in or near Boonville MO. Just under 2 hrs from KCMO. They have a store there that may or may not be affiliated called the Black Rifle Store.

IMG_20220223_200317.jpg Moriarti Arms 10mm AR Pistol has been great for me. Fully supported chamber 10.5" barrel, reliable and stupid accurate. Uses the same mags as my GLOCK 40 MOS. What's not to love. A 180gr JHP at a touch over 1500fps is some very serious firepower. I use Swift A Frame reloads for serious work, that bullet WILL NOT fail. Standard XTP's or Nosler JHP's for everything else.

I have a few PCCs or PDW type Firearms. Mostly they are just for fun. I do have a couple that fall into that get home bag or truck gun role. HD firearm is an 8" 300 blk. Because I can run subs with a suppressor in the house or swap the mag out for supers and pop a coyote or a racoon out in the field.

I have a CMMG Banshee in 9mm. It's fun to shoot on the range but for the size I'd take the 300 over it for defense. I'm a big fan of 10mm I have some pistols and a Kriss Vector chambered in it. 10mm is diffentily a thumper and a capable round.

I don't see anything wrong with a PDW in 9mm. It's not like 9mm isn't capable for defense. To me the point of a PDW is to increase range and accurate fire rate. Not necessarily to go to higher powered caliber. You hand some one a very nice full sized pistol and have them hit targets at various distance. Then hand them a a PDW in the same caliber it will show the advantage. Hitting a 6" plate at say 50 yards for example. Pretty hard and slow with a pistol. My kids can do that all day with a pcc/pdw. That's the point of them for defense rolls to me.

One of my favorite PDW type guns is my FLUX Raider. It's pretty much the size and weight of a full size pistol. But allows you to make longer shots quickly and accurately. So gives you the advantages of a PCC with out some of the downsides. 20211001_164835.jpg

Now if you really want a nutball PCC/PDW, the original Czech Scorpion was a .32, and had folding wire stock. We can't get the select fire version, with its 800 rpm cyclic rate, but a Tax Stamp will let you legally put the stock on one. They are a ball to shoot, especially if you reload 32s.... :)
