Peculiarities in Gun Taste?

Polished chrome or stainless puts me right off; I loathe shiny firearms. Matte chrome or stainless isn't bad...

so far i've only got one real oddity in regards to guns.

i like the way a glock looks.

i remember the first time i relized most people thought they were ugly was a real shock to me.

*shrug* still havn't figured out why.

Im right there with you man, I like a nice flat black Glock. Only problem though... I find that shooting autoloaders makes me waste alot more ammo than anything else, and im poor.:( lol

I just can't bear seeing a PIMP GUN! :fire:

You know - those highly polished, silver monstrosities with gold trim, pictures engraved on 'em, pearl handled pieces of tacky excrement. The worst I've seen were owned by Elvis Presley (what was he thinking).

Taurus makes some pimped out auto pistols with a shiny black finish and gold trim that makes me wanna puke every time I see one. :barf:

Mmmm-handguns must be autoloaders, no love for revolvers.
Autoloaders must be black, park, or that gorgeous deep blue you could just fall into.
I like 'old' calibers in my autoloaders, .32, 9mm, .45. But, they have to be new production, no C&R type pistols at all.
Rifles must have bolts, and be older than me. Wood and steel, in original military configuration, in 'old' calibers, 30.06, 8mm mauser, 6.5 swedish, 7.5 swiss, etc.
My mother used to say, "Takes all kinds to make a world"

I like bluing and simple wood. All the fancy engraving, gold inlay, jeweled bolts, and the like turns me off. Stainless/nickel/whatever does nothing for me. Intellectually I can see the benefit to synthetic stocks in certain circumstances, but want nothing to do with them.

I love single shot rifles, and pistols. I love obselete calibers. I love military weapons, but only bolt action rifles, and semi- auto pistols, military revolvers, except cap and ball, don't interest me. I prefer lever actions, over bolt when it comes to civilian rifles. I love big bore revolvers. I carry a revolver, but I love my 1911s. I have a Remington 870, it's a good shotgun, But I would absolutely Love an Over and under. I won't own a plastic handgun, but I like synthetic stocks on some rifles.

I love DA/SA triggers, but hate shooting them DA.

I like external safeties.

I love the power of magnum cartridges, but don't care to shoot them much.

My biggest peculiarity is that I cant stand the looks of an AR without a carry handle.Just doesnt look right at all for some reason.Other thanthat, I'm a total calier whore.I'm obsessed wih getting guns just because I dont have that caliber, which kinda stinks with the price of ammo anymore.Trying to keep like 30 different calibers stocked is a real expensive pain, and even getting relading dies and supplies for that many wasnt cheap, and it all takes up a LOT of space.I have a whole 8ft tall, 4 ft wide bookcase full of ammo....

Older I get the more I appreciate older firearms.

Mentors shared back in the day something, and has been shared often times since:

Everything one really needs in regard to a quality firearm and calibers, was invented, and manufactured by 1955 with the introduction of the .44 Magnum and by 1935 if one were not include the .44 Magnum.

I find myself saying some of the same things they did:

Why?
What the Hell for?
Marketing is a powerful, manipulative, indoctrinating and brainwashing force.

Peculiar ?

Nope! Just a Southern Gent with Convictions is all....

Totally agree here. Flattop ARs look like they're missing a scope.

I like matte black steel and heavy burlwood stocks. I too appreciate the utilitarian sex appeal of the Block, XD, but not the damn M&P. Most new revolvers are fugly, I like the german Korth revos. CZ autos are about the only ones worth buying. The cheapest rifles, Mosins and Simonovs and Kalashnikovs and Saigas. I've noticed a phenomenon at gun shows that all the best guns are $200-$600 but mostly pretty cheap. More or less, and you end up with something either way too cheap or too delicate for practical use.

I know this is generalizing but I like all of them... :D I like black military weapons, period. I also like stainless barrels, revolvers and semis. I like high gloss finish on fine wood stocks (I know this goes against the grain, no pun intended for most high end rifles). As you can see I'm easy to please. Anyway, I like them all.:D

Love old S&W revolvulators, nicely blued carbon steel, walnut for esthetics.
Also appreciate functionality- form follows function- in a different way. Love my Steyr S9, my constant companion.
The sexiest gun I ever saw is a .375 dbl rifle in the display case at RCBS- like a Parker .410 with rifle sights. The ultimate foxy gun is a doppelflinte drilling, like a Ferrari the ultimate in hand crafted beauty and performance which I can't afford.
I have loved guns since I knew what they were. I remember seeing a Win 92 (didn't know the model then but remember what it looked like) at a flea market about 55 years ago, and my Dad explaining how it worked. I was transfixed, and never got over it.

About the only one I have noticed is that I Prefer Heavier Guns over Lightweight ones.
(Particularly Rifles)

I hate polymer,9mm's and flat top slides.
I think heavily engraved guns look tacky, I like subtle highlights.
Even though I do quite a bit of it here at the shop I personally do not like checkering on rifle stocks, but prefer light & simple carvings.
I like the look of a fluted barrel and bolt.

I like anything that goes BANG-That said I am especially fond of 1903 springfields -BUT I put all my money into BLACK Military semi auto clones /Inc. military handguns
I least like Fancy skeet and trap shotguns -although I do own an 870TB and a WIN-101

I detest long barreled handguns. THe way I veiw it, if you can pack a 12 inch barreled handgun, pack a rifle!

I have a weakness for beautiful Walnut and Maple. You could put a turd in a nice looking Maple stock and it would be MY turd. And all but a select few of my guns are older than I am. I love old Remingtons, Winchesters and Mossbergs.

I really don't care for revolvers. I only have 1 (H&R .22WMR) and am thinking of selling it.
