Killer Plant

Hey, I've got one if you want it. I'd just have to hack it off and dig up the roots. We can't seem to kill it, despite cutting it off two inches above ground with the chain-saw. I guess it's a sort of woody weed. It's grown 8ft in one year, spreads out about 6ft wide, and every branch is covered in 2in long, razor-sharp thorns. I've had one poke me through a thick leather work glove, and it would probably puncture a tire. It sits out there and grates against the side of the house. I would never want to take it on at night. Heck, I don't like taking the thing on during the day. We've started calling it "Neuman, the Nemesis Tree"

Sounds like the Japanese Barbary(sp?) plant I have out in front of my place. seems like you did well for being startled into a crappy situation. Hopefully he never comes back.

We had a peeping tom in our area when I was growing up, one night my older sister heard something at the window when she was in the shower. Got out of the shower and told Dad. Dad's instructions to my older brother was to count to ten and then rattle the back door.

Peeping tom heard the rattle and took off around the side of the house, as he hopped the side gate he came face to face with the old man.

Damn he was a mess when the wallopers arrived to collect him!

These help to deter and document:

1. Thorn bushes placed tight against walls under windows

2. Security cameras

3. Dogs...very big, very mean dogs

Personally, I think I would have been tempted to spray some pepper spray through the window at this freak. I wonder if it would be possible to develop a 20 gallon pepper spray system (w/permanent red dye) that has fogging nozzles at every window and door so if this is going down, you could hit the panic button and season their butt. Then, even if they get away, they have to explain the dye.

my fiancie had a problem a couple months back with a class mate who kept looking in her windows on his way home from class. I took my gun collection over to her house, sat in her bed room and cleaned for a couple hours. Perfect timing, I had just installed the trigger unit on my M1 as he stuck his head up in the window. I racked the action in an unfriendly manner and made eye contact, he never came back.

A few years ago my girlfriend had a neighbor stalking her....broke into her house and stole her underwear and shoes. The police found that he made a little "shrine" in the woods. Makes me very safety oriented....good thing for him I wasn't dating her at the time....I wouldn't have gotten firearms involved, but a good parking lot asskicking would have been in order.

Bottom line is that you have to watch out for these creeps. Get good blinds.

Oh, and my name is Tom....I resent the whole "peeping tom" thing

PT gets justice

Back in the early 80's there was a peeping tom in the next county over. He had been peeping in on a young girl. The girl told her dad and the next night she told him the guy was at the window the father went outside shot and killed him. The jury found him not guilty of murder. Country justice at work.

I second the webcam atached to a recording device setup-we had a peeping tom (sorry Kimber) in my area who was caught and convicted and had his face plastered all over the TV just recently.
I also like the pet triffid idea, in Queensland we have a thing called a Gympie tree-it has soft wide leaves covered in tiny hairs. This is like poison ivy's evil cousin -imagine an unbeareable burning itching rash which lasts quite literally for months.
I will spare you the details of a young chap who thought it would make nice toilet paper at Canungara a few years back.

A useful plant for security

One word: Cholla (pronounced CHOY-a)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opuntia

Those of us in the desert southwest know this bad boy well. It grows "fingers," densely covered with needle-sharp, inch-long spines. These tend to break off easily, so one spine that stuck you is suddenly 50 as the piece of cholla attaches itself to you. The spines are barbed and very hard to pull out. The one time I got stuck, I had to hold the stuck hand with the cholla hanging downward from it, and pull one spine at a time with pliers!

Be careful with it and other "hostile" plants. I suggest growing them in large, heavy containers below windows -- too heavy for someone to move -- to prevent them from getting loose on your property.

Cholla may not grow as fast as some other plants, but it can become large, impenetrable bushes. Highly recommended. ;)

Best wishes,
Dirty Bob

think ahead

What are you going to do.....really. Say there is a PT outside your window. Can't shoot him...so you go outside armed (in case he is) to confront him. You catch him in the act....now what....if he doesn't threaten you, isn't visibly armed, or doesn't attempt to wrestle your weapon from you....YOU ARE &*^% OUT OF LUCK.

What are you going to do if he says screw off and takes off running? Gonna shoot him? I know hat most everyone is gonna do. They are gonna stand there with their weapon (and maybe their gun too..) in hand and watch the PT scuttle off into the night.

You got two choices:
1. Shoot him and do something illegal to cover up what you have done.
2. Detain him physically until police/sherrif arrives. In the mean time you are still armed (undoubtedly with no holster on due to the time of night) with no where to safely stow your weapon or light while you attempt to detain him.

This is gonna be high comedy...A highlight reel....I'm allready rolling on the floor.

Not criticizing anyone. I feel your frustration. Don't you just love the society that lawyers and sheeple have built, where the everyday family man has to put up with that kind of B.S .

It really is sad how society has handicapped a man from protecting his family, but thems the breaks.

But, to be fair, if a young man finds himself bathed in a flashlight, facing a gun (those barrels sure look big when you are on the 'business' end) and being ordered to get on the ground; I bet they are likley to comply with those orders. Sure they may understand that it would be illegal for that father to shoot them if they run... but HOW sure are they that the man knows that, are they willing to bet their life? I would say many aren't.

I guess the bad thing is that in most states, probably even castle law states the pointing of a weapon is illegal unless threatened with deadly force especially outside of your home. The mere presence of a firearm in some cases could be considered as illegal. Be careful and get a feel for your DA as they are the ones who will ultimately decide if you will be prosecuted.
What we might believe is totaly in our right might end up with us being the bad guy. I personally believe that anyone who is on my property or camp and so on and invading my or my families space should expect to have a firearm pointed in his direction. That doesn't mean that I point guns at every one that comes on my place but if people are out in my shop and loading a truck with my stuff I think I should be able to intervene and have a weapon present.

I think you handled it quite well, probably better than I would have done. It's too bad he wasn't caught, but at least no one was unnecessarily hurt. I doubt he'll be coming back to your place.

love this

Who wrote this??? This is rich.....
