This might belong in another section but I didn't see anything about air guns in the non-firearms area.
Does anyone have any input or recommendations on a pellet/BB pistol for around $100? Also, input on single shot versus semi-auto(ie... CO2).
Looking for something for plinking around the yard, easy/fast to load and shoot, and be able to holster.
Thanks

I like some of the 6mm air-soft guns from www.jungletoys.com.

I've one of their "gas blowback" 1911 style guns that handles very much like a Para Ordnance P13. Great back yard fun, but won't do if you expect some pest control duty -- for which I've a .177 800+ fps single shot rifle.

Very cheap to shoot, but strictly outdoors as the "green gas" is flammable and smells bad.

Well, first I would ask to be sure you wouldn't violate local ordinances. In many places they regard pellet guns the same as firearms. You'd get just as large a fine as if you were shooting CB's in your .22 pistol. And they might be just as quiet.
If you want convenience and rapid fire, you are probably going to have to go with CO2. Then it is a case of what do you want it to look like? You can get them that look like a revolver, Walther, Beretta, etc. And the power levels differ. Just want to dent a can or go through it? Anymore, airsoft guns are getting up there in power for just casual short range target popping. If you are not going to attempt "pest control", you might also want to consider them.

I live out in the county but in a neighborhood setting.
I would to go thru a can, more power.
Leaning towards co2. How are they for accuracy? Group size at 50 ft from a rest?

I bought a Marksman 2004 a couple months ago. It is a very accurate single-shot pellet pistol. It was hard to cock at first, but gets easy after you get used to it.

If you like accurate shooting for under $50, it is definitely the one I would recommend.

my favorite is..

A Crossman CO2 powered, single shot, tip-up barrel, Beretta look-a-like that I bought years ago. That thing has terrorized more soda cans than you can believe.

That marksman looks pretty good for the money. Just remember, the mfg uses very lightweight pellets to get that velocity.

I did a lot of research last year into the Beeman P3 and Marksman clone issue. Yes, the Marksman IS pretty much the same design as the Beeman....but it is made in China vs Germany.

Now, I know the Chineese CAN make a decent weapon but the word on the 'knock off' P3 is a bit spotty. The materials aren't the same quality although the Marksman CAN work and work well if you get a good one. You ARE getting gouged with the German one by overpriced labour and Euro conversion but are also more likely to get a good pistol.

All this being said, I went with the Daisy Avanti 747 side lever. Easier to cock and load but not quite as powerful (325-350fps). It can put 10 shots into an aspirin tablet at 10M. Again and again. Great for indoor practice but might be underpowered for garden pest control unless they are really little critters.

You have two basic ways to go... 6mm or .177

You can go with AirSoft (6mm plastic BB's) or .177caliber pellets/BB's. I have both and they each have their pluses and minuses.

You can shoot either one in your garage. AirSoft will do less damage indoors, you could actually shoot it in your house our apartment without many worries. I wouldn't do that with .177

AirSoft has a lot of variation. You can get single shot, spring guns that shoot around 150fps (feet per second) and bottled gas models that shoot up to 310. To give you some idea, at 150fps, the BB will not even penetrate the cardboard used for 12pks of cola, whereas at 310, it will penetrate a soda can and go all the way through it if you are close. There are a few CO2 AirSoft guns that go up to 350 or so. For CO2, .177 handguns, 450fps would not be unusual and being a smaller projectile, it will put quite a hole in some targets.

Probably the most fun shooters are the ALL METAL AirSoft guns that are very close to the real thing in appearance and operation. They are blowback and add realism to firing the gun. If you have a real Glock, Beretta, HK or 1911, you can probably find one that is just like it. Here is a link to a Beretta that is rated as one of the hardest hitting and most accurate. There are other good guns if you want to do your own research, I am just trying to make it easy.

You will not believe the realism the first time that you see and hold this gun. It also field strips.

If you like the 1911 style, you will like this one. It comes with a bulk gas type mag but you can buy a special 12gm CO2 mag for it so that you can use either bottled gas or 12gm cartridges. One really nice feature of the WE 1911's is the adjustable Bowmar sight.

If you want a .177cal, there are many available and too much to cover here. I recommend the Gamo brand because I prefer CO2 to pump and I prefer repeaters over single shot. I want action, not loading and cocking on every shot. They are pretty good for the money.

If you want pump or single shot, I am not the one to give advice here.

For holsters, check out that AirSplat site or any AirSoft dealer. I bought a cross-draw tactical vest today from a local AirSoft dealer and it is the same thing that I could get at the gun store.

BTW, I had a very bad EAA Anics pistol so be warned.

Always wear eye protection!!!

Have a Crosman "357" model that shoots 400-500 fps, pretty good power for a .177 cal pistol and very accurate. $39 at Walmart. Has 2 10 shot cylinders, breaks at the bbl to reload and is c02 powered.
