Really, a round with the ballistics of a 45-70 is bad for the lower 48. I don't get it.

Many midwest states are shotgun only hunting or 'power restricted' due to high population density.

The laws/regs are set by the local division of wildlife, rather than the state legistalture or whatever.

Just off the top of my head, I think you've got too much. If, indeed, TEOTWAWKI occurs, you'll probably have to be moving around a lot --either by well-armed government decree, or to escape the unstoppable firestorms or ...whatever.

And if the "AWKI" part occurs, the situation may well decay to the point where you'd be better off with a flintlock rifle, where you could use matcheads for powder and marbles or even well-patched rocks for projectiles. There may not be much powder, brass, primers, bullets, and assembled ammo available for little old you.

However, that large an arsenal might allow you to buy into the ranks of a local warlord.

(Just feeling unusually realistic this morning.)

While it may not have any practical value to you, there is nothing more powerful than your .223 on your list other than the shotgun.

I think every collection needs at least one bolt action in a common caliber like .308.
I agree. Something harder hitting, something long range, something with a scope....you can kill all those birds with one stone. Get a bolt .308 or something similar, or at least pick up a different upper for your AR. Or maybe just pick up a surplus battle rifle in some .30 caliber variety.

If hunting is not important and you want to remain somewhat tactical, perhaps the Ruger Gunsite Scout?

I think you've pretty well covered a lot of possibilities, but "One Man's Meat is Another Man's Poison".

You drive a Chevy, he drives a Ford and I'm a Dodge man. We all have different taste and preferance. The majority of what you have (and I admit it covers your paradigm) is stuff I would not even consider having... NOT from quality standpoint, but rather from a utility/ versatility standpoint.

My list is full of lever action rifles. My 308s are a Ruger M77 RSI and an M1A SOCOM16. My handgun battery has two 45 ACPs (Glock 30 sf and a Kimber) and that's IT for semi-autos. I find wheel guns to be infinitely more versatile.

And if it really came down to it, I'd be well heeled with a Trapper Length Lever rifle and a matching caliber revolver. I've packed a combo like that, of an on, since the mid 1960s in some of the wildest places in the western hemisphere and it has served me well.
