As long as someone doesn't mention .45 GAP everything will be ok.

H'mmm. Best all round handgun, according to my needs....but I have a range of needs.

For concealed carry, no question, Walther p5. Perhaps the finest handgun ever made.

For all round, everything, p220. Simple, reliable, powerful, accurate. And if I miss, LOUD!

Semiauto - Full Size 1911 (Any will do, but mines a Ruger)

Revolver - S&W 686, 6" barrel

There's a lot of gray area here. There's also the Ruger 22/45 in the small caliber semiauto...the Colt/S&W snubbies that suit a better CC need...the Ruger Blackhawks/Vaquero for single action in-the-woods fun...and probably a dozen or so choices inbetween.

If the good'ol USA showed up at my door tomorrow and said I'd only be able to keep one of my handguns, it'd be the 686. With the option of hunting to survive and keeping your home safe, I think it'd be tough to beat.

I really believe in this gun. Simple, rugged, powerful, and reasonably priced. Easily equal or superior to guns three times the price. Unfortunately, not pretty, and can't be dressed up with ivory. Model 29 10mm. ..................................................................................

I'm a firm believer in "the indian not the arrow" philosophy so there are dozens of guns that I could make due with. Just to play along I'll take my Colt Lightweight Commander in 38 Super.

If I could only have one handgun for all purposes it would be a stainless Ruger GP100 .357 with the 4.2" barrel. Hunting, target, carry, home defense, etc. - not the best for any of those purposes but certainly can handle them. Of course, I -like most of us - don't limit myself to one handgun. So - I have several Rugers but no GP100.

(Curious why this thread isn't in handguns general)

For me that would be a Colt Government in .38 Super. I would add a 9mm. barrel assembly and magazine along with a .22LR conversion kit to make it my all-around pistol.

I'd be torn between my S&W 5906, which is feel like is a great duty/action pistol and my 1911 Les Baer with a Marvel Unit 1 conversion.

Because if it's another el Godfather poll, he's waiting for the USP/P226/Glock comparison, and revolvers don't factor in! Lol

Although I don't currently own any .40 S&W, I've always said that if I could literally only own one handgun chambered in one caliber to fit all purposes, it would be .40. And although I wouldn't consider myself especially faithful or loyal to Glocks, it would be a 23 due to full-sized grip with conceal-ability.

While not an autoloader my S&W Model 65 3" would be my one handgun. I can shoot it as well as anything I own. I can carry it @ 3-4 o clock yet short enough to carry AIWB. If I had to choose a pistol it would be my Glock 19. I find it a little long for AIWB but otherwise its great at everything.

It's funny, but if I could only have one (and no cheating with barrel swaps) it would be a Glock 19. It works well for CCW, range, and competition, and ammo is usually available. The funny part is I own 7 Glocks, no G19. I have others that specialize (17L, 35, 26, 21, 30).

If you are speaking of just semi-auto pistols the answer is easy. A Colt Delta Elite in 10mm. If you open it up to all handguns then the answer changes to a Ruger GP100 4in, Ruger SP101 3in, S&W 65,66,586,686, in a 3 or 4in barrel all of course in .357 magnum.

Best all around ?

You did say best all around ? Well then I'm taking a different tack than what most of these shooters choose.I'm saying it would be my 5' bull barrel Ruger MK2 .I can use it on small game, deer up close, people too if I'd have to. I get a lot of bang for the $ for all around use !
