Dear THR:
If you were to chose FIVE semi auto pistols that cover all your needs, which would you pick?

Thank you

Unfortunately, the site requires you to post the thread prior to letting you even set up the poll, which means you often see the post before the poll questions.

That's ok, allaroundhunter. At this point, Godfather is awfully predictable.

The answer is the Nighthawk/Wilson 1911.
Runner up is the tricked out Sig 226 of which you are very fond.
Honorable mention for the H&K that was also going to be included in the poll.

I'm sure if I think hard enough I'll think of the other two you were going to include.
:p

He was going to vote for whichever poll had his H&K Mk23...

I will make my list:

1. Nighthawk GRP - yes, I am obsessed with this pistol at the moment. I rented one at the range and absolutely loved it....
2. Ruger 22/45 - a handgun list is not complete without one
3. M&P Shield (9mm) - CCW gun when bigger and heavier guns aren't what you are wanting to carry
4. S&W .460 XVR (8.4" bbl) - .....because the list would not be complete without a big bore hammer ;)
5. Sig Sauer P226 (9mm) - good all purpose pistol and again....I just really like them :neener:

I personally am not much of an H&K guy, but they are fine guns.

Well let's get a discussion going here then...

1) Glock 29 (10mm)
2) Glock 33 (9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W)
3) Glock 30 (.45 ACP, .45 Super)
4) S&W 617 (.22LR)
5) Draco (7.62x39)

I'd be content with that.

OK, do not see a poll either. Here is my list:
1. Guncrafter M1 in .45/.50gi
2. SVI Infinity single stack in .45
3. Colt Delta Elite in 10mm
4. HK p7m8 in 9mm
5. SW Model 6 in .357mag

Well the poll option got screwed up for a while hence no poll. However, it is interesting to read what people thought in terms of what I was going to include.

Nonetheless, this would be my choice:

1. Dan Wesson Havoc 38 Super
2. Nighhawk Custom H-10mm
3. H&K USP 45
4. Sig P229 Elite SS .40SW
5. Glock 19

1. Walther P99 AS
2. Stoeger Cougar 8000G
3. Bersa Thunder 9UC Pro
4. Kahr CW9
5. Walther P88

All 9 mm. The first four I have and do everything I want my semi-autos to do. The P88 is one I'd really love to have! Maybe some day.

1. a 1911 pattern .45
2. a G17
3. a .22 (any of the Rugers will do)
4. a seecamp in .32
5. anyone's mini 9, e.g. M&P shield, Kahr PM9

1. Ruger SR9c for CCW.
2. Walther PPQ for everything else.
3. FN FNP-45, in case... Uhhhh... In case FMJ is all we have.
4. EAA Witness Carry P 9mm
5. Sig P226

1-3 are set. 4 & 5 will change if you ask me again.

My choice of guns

Sig 226 tactical
Beretta M9A1
Beretta Nano
Sig 220 Elite Dark
Springfield XDM
Sig 556 pistol

Yes, I know you asked for 5, if I had to eliminate one it would be either the M9A1or the XDM

You're not exactly an enigma. :p

You made some interesting choices. Some good "all arounders" on that list.

Footnote: my selection was based on what I think are quality firearms within my budget. If we're dreaming "sky's the limit," I'll make a different list.

Glock 17 (blaster, beater, gamer, HD w/ light, have .22lr upper)
Glock 26 (#3 CCW, small CCW - as small as I'll go, 10-11+1 9mm that I shoot well, takes G17 & G19 mags, .22lr upper available)
Glock 30 (#1 CCW, small 9-10+1 .45acp that I shoot better than most guns of any service caliber and size, .22lr upper available)
1911 (#2 CCW, nostalgia, I shoot it very well, .22lr upper available)
Sig P226 (just love shooting that gun, .22lr upper available)

Mind me asking why a 17 AND a 26?
Post updated.

The G17 is my main blaster, gamer and HD gun. That gun plain runs and runs. Gun is cheap, parts are cheap/plentiful and accessories are cheap/plentiful. I'm heavily invested in the gun (mags, parts, gear, etc.). I shoot it well. Takes an AA .22lr upper which is very nice.

The G26 is as small as I'll go in a CCW. It also serves as a backup 9mm to my G17 in taking the same mags. It's very reliable. Gun is cheap, parts are cheap/plentiful and accessories are cheap/plentiful. It's 10-11+1 in a small package. I shoot it well for a gun of that size. I use it the least, but have it nonetheless for the reasons noted.

The G19 does nothing for me. It compromises in all areas I value. I've owned and tried hard to like the G19 five times, and put more than 25k through the platform. I've found, for me, the G17 is the better shooter and the G26 the better CCW. I can have the two (G17 and G26) so don't need one (G19).

How about categories:

1. .22 full-size for plinking, practice, and perhaps varmints
2. a modern (military or police) service pistol for home defense and reliability
3. a compact for carry
4. a 10mm or other higher-powered pistol for woods defense, hunting, and fun
5. a tuned-up steel-frame pistol for gun games and target shooting

Hmm, 5 autoloaders?

1 CZ SP-01 Phantom, daily carry
2 CZ P01, with the Kadet Kit gives me a very concealable sidearm AND an accurate 22lr pistol
I already have the above two... These would be wants
3 SiG P-210, because everyone says it's the Cadillac of 9mm pistols
4 CZ SP-01 Tactical
5 Colt 1911A1 - every American should have one somewhere.

That list should cover every conceivable "need" for a semi-auto pistol, short range, defensive, plinking, serious target work, military, and historical.
