US Legal Authority ends some odd miles off the coast....

I can't recall the number, but once you hit,"International Waters", it's all good...
Like gambling and such..As long as you don't, bring back prohibited items,"The law of the land", don't apply on ,"The open waters", or out side US teritories....(exempting murder which has no jurisdictional limit I believe)..

PS-That's why they're called the,"Coast Guard", and not the,"Open Ocean Guard", which would be our Navy, who has to be activated to do ,"Open Ocean Policing" not just info gathering, AKA, spying...

I read a story about a family cruise on their own pleasure boat, I think it was a sail boat. They "laid anchor" (I think that's the phrase) near a deserted island for some vacation time, and a couple of days later a ship full of unsavory looking men sailed near them, passing by a few times as if checking them out. The father went down into the boat and with the shop equipment he had there, he made one black Glock for each of his family members out of wood, and they all stuck them prominently in their belts. Next time they cruised by, they all stood on deck with the "Glocks" in their belts, smiled and waived. They never saw them again after that.

Shop equipment on a pleasure boat? So what happens if you get a big wave while you're operating the bandsaw :scrutiny:

i think a full auto 40mm or 30mm grenade launcher would do nicely use hedp rounds.when not in use it could be stored easily.

heck at the very least keep some oo buck around for those clays guns.

The captain and some of the crew on this boat is norwegian. The norwegian assosiation for sailors or whatever it translates to in english, do not recomend arming ships. In norwegian newspapers they say that they made a "big acoustic sound" and followed other mesures to scare away the Pirates, what those other mesurements are, they didnt tell, but I will guess that it includes high pressure water sprayed on people trying to get onboard. That information is from a friend who is a sailor. I realy wonder what that "big acoustic sound" is...

Yup. The Persian Gulf and Indian Oceans are pirate Hot-Spots.

No Ocean-going vessel should leaev port withought a pair of long-range rifles, and a 12guage shotgun. Its just prudent.

USS Vesuvius had a dynamite gun. Not terribly accurate but it had a big bang? Beats a water hose.

These guys didn't plan this too well.
And next time?
I'm under the impression they don't ever plan very well. An ex-navy friend of mine told me that south pacific pirates make regular runs at US submarines that are surfaced, and break off when they figure out they're making a horrible mistake.

Probably dynamite then! And for PC`s sake, they called it "a big acoustic sound"
Funny.

This is pretty silly when you think about it. The only armament you really need against these gutsy pirates is a powerful pellet gun, to sink their inflatable boats. And maybe some hot water to pour on them as they are trying to climb up and board you. You could even drop some live lobsters on their heads. Yet the crew relied on "a big acoustic sound" to "scare them away". Ahhh, the wonders of gun-free zones.

They had som other stuff as well, what it was they dont tell us, I said a little about that in a previous post, in this thread.

Piracy is a growing threat.. Apparently the Russians and Israelis believe in arming thier ships and resisting. The main body of the international community is against the concept, they say run away. The wares off the Somalian coast and the area around Sumatra seem to be the worst for attacks on big ships. Sometimes they find the ships running with no crew left on board. An interesting book was writtern on this quite recently, can't remember the name.

You bet! The Vesuvius was actually the world's largest *air rifle*. Commissioned during the Spanish-American War, it used compressed air tanks to hurl what was in essence trash cans filled with dynamite. It would sneak in near shore at night and lob these things ashore...no muzzle blast to reveal their position to the Cuban shore batteries.

Cheers

Comedy Gold! :D

Time to bring back a classic concept:

The Q-Ship

Hire a nice but small cruise liner.
Invite NRA highpower rifle competitors, Class III competitors, IPSC 3-gun, Cowboy Action Shooters, hunters, etc, etc, and of course, those guys with the big fifties.
Invite same to bring their toys and a case or two of ammo each.
Bring plenty of video and still cameras.
Cruise off Somalia at slow speed, pretending to be a crippled ship.

Two or three passes ought to do it.

Pop some smoke grenades on the fantail to REALLY lure them in...

Best armament for today's cruise fleet is side mounted CIWS. Near 180 degree capability and mounted near the center of each side, the sea-whiz could handle anything this side of a battleship.;)
