The guys at the pawn shop have it in for me. They know I can't resist a good deal.
I found a Plainfield M1, in .30carbine today. It has very nice light(not blonde)wood, the bluing is between 80-90%. The bore is bright and shiny.
It has a 5 digit serial number, 110xx. It also comes with one 30rd. mag.
Can anyone give me an idea about how old it is? Plainfield did make these post-war, right?
Oh, by the way, the price was $175. out the door. I didn't have alot of cash on me, and these guys won't take checks, so I put what I had down on it and will probably pick it up in a day or two.

Planfield made commercial copies of the carbine. They are generally regarded as the best of the commercial clones and should accept most GI parts.

$175 is a steal if the gun is in good condition. Grab it.

Plainfield made one of the better commercial M1 Carbines. $175 for one in the condition that you describe is a good deal.

FYI, Carbines are generally more reliable with USGI 15 round mags than 30s, even GI 30s. Most of the commercial 30 round mags are pretty bad.
