Today I send a letter to President Bush. Something like this:
Warsaw A.D. 23.01.2003

H.E. George Bush
President of the United States of America
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr President!

Poland has been a great ally of the United States. Our soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder with the Americans in Iraq.
But American borders remain closed to us. Polish visitors are required to undergo an unacceptable procedure.
Mr President, let America prove friendship wih Poland and cancel non-immigrant visas for us.

Few hundred thousend of Poles did the same thing. We starting with new action here in Poland. We are treated by immigration service worse than French or German people for example. Polish Americans (about 10 milions US citizens) gave us strong support, but we also need your help! We are not asking for any special treatment, we want to be treated like any other civilized European nation. It will not mean automatic enter for every Pole to the US, even with visa not every can do it, so it's not big difference after all. If you want for example visit your family in US, you have to pay 100$ - a lot of money here (when your application is refused you lost your money), then you have to wait outside US Embassy even up to 5 hours (imagine this in winter) for interview. Than again you have to wait for decision, and visit (wait outside US Embassy again) to collect your visa. With this visa you can get on plane and immigration officer when you are lucky (when not you return in next plane to Poland) will take your fingerprints and photo. After this you can cross Americas border...finally.
Can you imagine all this. It's strange for us. We want to be treated like many other nations in Europe. Please help us with this. If you can contact your representatives in Congress, or send a letter (email)to President Bush it will be great help for us. American government should know that not only Polish Americans support us. Contact your friends, maybe they also can give us support. We need every possible vote! Please don't forget about us. Thank you. Your friend - Adam.

Ps. Next monday our President will visit President Bush. He want to start this action, but it will take a lot of work and time.

I find this odd, to say the least. I'll talk it up with my Polish friends and relatives here stateside and see if I can find out more.

I wonder if the other 50% of my blood has this much of a problem coming in from Israel.

You got it buddy. The cold war is over, and it looks to me like America has better friends in poland than in most of western europe. I think the Poles should get equal thrift with the Britons etc.

By the way, Adam is among the people whom I'd like to see in America. He is always welcome in my home.

Hey, he's planning on moving to Indiana, that's got to say something good about him;) Couldn't be a better guy unless maybe he was planning on moving to Texas:D

Did I mention I was born in Indiana - That couldn't influence my opinion any could it?

Sorry, can't help ya...my father-in-law is from Poland...I'm slightly biased.
(just kidding)

Seriously though, Poland is a true leader in Europe and needs to be seen as one of our true allies.

When you make it to the US enjoy your visit. Is your family in Niagara Falls?

I have a friend that lives in Slovakia. Same deal for her.

They (U.S.) are just not giving out visa's anymore since 911.

Too bad, because she is smart, gorgeous, and she is one of the most engaging people I know. As a figure model, she would be very popular in the U.S.

Once, with a picture of her in a bikini, she had captioned:

"Were do I hide bomb in this outfit?"

We need our European friends to come to the U.S., especially those in the Eastern European countries that are far friendlier to us then the French or Germans are. They will spend U.S. dollars and many of them are very talented people.

Jeez, Skunk, just grow some Game like the rest of us had to. International begging does not become us!

Any privilege we extend to France and Germany but not Poland represents a mistake. Poland would like to be our ally if only we would grow up and make it possible.

By the way, the President is not addressed as His Excellency. He is, at least in theory, first among equals and requires no honorific except for "President."

Unfortunately visa waivers offered to scum countries like France and Germany are not based on anyhting more that statistical probability of overstays.

French and Germans statistically dont overstay (hopefully they will not even bother to come). They get Visa waivers..

Statistically Poles do overstay. They need Visas (which are freely givin).

Russians overstay. They need Visas.

Japanese dont overstay. They get waivers. Thais do overstay. They hardly get Visas at all.
