If one had to be sacrificed to secure the other, which would you let go and why? Now I know that all of us here know that neither should be disallowed as we have rights to both, but in a hypothetical situation in which one would be forced to choose one or the or the other, which do you see as more important?

It should also be noted that the idea is that no further legislation would be passed that would pose threats to whatever you choose, that the one you pick is secured for eternity no matter who is in office.

I would prefer the CCW Ban, because even though selfprotection against criminals is important, Effective tools to protect country and freedom is more important. To me this must be a question of ideology rather than convenience.

I would not give up either. I will Conceal Carry whether it is "legal" or not. But I do intend on buying an AR as well.

I'll take the AWB - I've lived in CA and now have full auto, nasty EBR's and a CCW. Of course I had a couple of EBR's before the CA AWB. It's nice to buy more at any time but protecting myself and my wife everyday is #1.

I want to secure an AR-10, an FN 5.7 and another AR-15 before it goes down.

On the other hand, if we do have an AWB, all those old cool revolvers will be back in style.:)

I wouldn't allow either, but I will say that we'll have a much better chance "securing rights for eternity" (including CCW) if we keep our assault weapons.

The second amendment is primarily about assault weapons in my opinion. But if you're allowed to have assault weapons, it goes without saying that you should be allowed to have other guns.

In your scenario, with CCW banned, is open carry still legal?

Exactly PTK. I dont give up either.
But you do and did as did I and everyone else in this country. There was an AWB and there were bans on CCW. The real question is not whether you are willing to give these up, but how far will you let it go?

Yes it would, but as I'm sure many will agree, it is not the best nor most practicable option, which in turn limits its functional capacity for many Americans.

Personally, I would trade assault weapons for CCW. My decision is heavily influenced by revolutions across the globe. As one pointed out, the second is more about securing freedom and liberty, but I tell you what, the military can have the latest and greatest killing devices in the world, but they can never stand a chance to the greatest weapon of all; the will of the people (OTPOR anyone?).

I think I'm also biased from the fact that I live in the great state of Wisconsin, where there are endless supply of hi cap mags and pistol grips, but we lack the basic right of proper self preservation. That and I need a good excuse to shell out cash for a Ruger LCP.:D

This is the sort of question that I will not even play games with any more than I will play games with the phoney "ethics" questions about "which one would you save?"

Actually I did not give up anything. At the time those bans were put in place I was not old enough to vote norwas I old enough to own any AR's.

This ain't hypothetical, for more information please fly to Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada and any number of countries represented by the UN. I believe we may be the last country to enjoy what is left of our eroded freedoms and not yet belong to the enlightened masses that adhere so religiously to the collective lifestyle.

Would the AWB be like the last one, with grandfathering and such?

Yes, just like the last one.

Once again I must clarify that NEITHER is acceptable, but what we are discussing is the reality of our situation. As one pointed out, we DID have an AWB and a bans on CCW are in place. While we fight for all rights regarding the private ownership of arms, a trade off such as this is not as far fetched as we would like it to be and may be a reality in the future...

Ditto.

Neither is acceptable. The last AWB ended badly for the grabbers, and CCW is a state right that I don't think the Federal Government wants to impede upon. There have already been quite a few multi-state secession meetings in the last few years.

You can hide firearms in a ditch or deep in the woods if you protect them from the elements and bury them a couple feet deep, in case they're needed. It's somewhat difficult to carry an acre of sod on one's hip.

I hope the great majority pick neither. For those willing to trade, when you begin voluntarily trading away liberties, how long before they just take them.

We need to fight each and every violation of our rights one step at a time.

With all due respect, Nasser, this statement:

Doesn't really jive with this statement:
It should also be noted that the idea is that no further legislation would be passed that would pose threats to whatever you choose, that the one you pick is secured for eternity no matter who is in office.

The reality is that no earthly power can secure anything for eternity. The idea that we can hand over our assault weapons and trust the government to keep our rights secure forever is not realistic at all.

???

Would you rather get shot in the left leg or the right leg?

What kind of knife would you prefer to be stabbed with, a sharp one, or a dull one?

Would you rather be struck in the head with a baseball bat or a golf club?

For all types of these questions,

MY ANSWER IS NO.
