1. Do you carry with a round chambered?
2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?

1. I do now, always. When I first started carrying, no.
2. I'd say 80% of the time I carry my Colt Commander. When I need to REALLY conceal I'll carry my Glock 19 at appendix carry, where it disappears.
3. C&L for the Colt, N/A for the Glock.

1. Do you carry with a round chambered?
Yes.

An empty gun takes longer to get into action. In a life-threatening situation every split second counts. Why add another disadvantage?

What if you rack the slide and the first round misfeeds? What if your weak hand/arm is injured before you draw your weapon and you CAN'T rack the slide? Too many things can go wrong and burn valuable time.

2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
No.

My gun is a DAO with a long mid-weight trigger. The trigger, my mind, and my training are my three safeties.

1. Yes. Always.

2. Most of the time, I carry a gun without a manual safety (Glock or S&W
M25 revolver). Rarely, I carry a gun with a safety (Browning Hipower, Colt MkIV series 70, CZ75BSA, Walther PPKS).

3. I carry single action semi-automatic pistols with the safety on. I carry double action semi-automatic pistols with the safety off.

Yes, Always
Yes, Always.
You carry your handgun with safety on and off all at the same time?

I carry a Springfield XD-40

1. Do you carry with a round chambered? Yes.
2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety? No.
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off? NA

Reasons?

1. Time and the possibility that I might not have both hands available when I am under attack.
2. I didn't choose a gun with a thumb-safety because , frankly, I don't practice enough to be sure that releasing it will be dead certain automatic -- unlike the many that I see at the range who forget it even when they're not under pressure.

I carry a Wilson Combat 1911 in Condition 1, cocked and locked, always in a holster.

Before I switched to the major caliber, I carried a Hi-Power, also in Condition 1. Never, ever had a gun come off safe by itself.

I carry a kahr PM9

your questions:

1. empty chamber
2. no safety of any kind
3. not applicable

Not only do I keep the chamber empty, I keep the magazine out of the pistol, that way I can't forget that it needs to be cycled before being ready.

No, I am not 100% happy with this system I am using. I would prefer a DA/SA pistol with decocker and manual safety with a full clip and one in the chamber for pocket carry. But I carry the kahr because it is the smallest lightest 9mm that I can find(not counting a rohrbaugh). Try finding me a DA/SA decocker in 9mm that is smaller than a kahr PM9.

I am seriously thinking about switching to a derringer or maybe a keltec 32 auto. I am not likely to put up with carrying anything bigger than a kahr PM9, and even that gets left in my vehicle half the time.

1. Do you carry with a round chambered?
2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?

Beretta PX4 Storm:

1. Yes, a round is always chambered.

2. Yes, Manual Safety/De-cocking Lever.

3. I keep the safety off while holstered because it is a DA/SA.

The Blade-Tech Kydex holster completely covers the trigger so there can be no accidental trigger pull.
The safety is on while holstering and unholstering.

1. Do you carry with a round chambered?
Always

2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
Depends on the gun... I have one with and one without

3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?
Reasons?

On when carrying the gun with a manual safety... it just makes me feel better. However, carrying the one w/out the manual safety does not bother me either.

Every gun I carry will fire when I pull the trigger. Those that have safeties are only used as decockers, safety always off. Chambered round of course.
This is why I stopped carrying my 1911 and Hi Power, so as to not mess up systems under stress.

1911:
1. Do you carry with a round chambered? Absolutely yes.
2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety? Yes.
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off? On.

Yes, I carry a loaded pistol.
Yes, my carry gun has a manual safety.
Yes, I use the safety

Reasons:
1)I probably won't have two hands available, at least one will be busy getting my wife and/or son out of the line of attack.
2) It's a 1911, but I carried an XD for a short while and had no real objection to not having a thumb safety, as the pistol was designed that way.
3) It's there, so I use it. One more check-in to make sure the loud noise and travelling projectile are what I really want. I don't consider it a necessity on a carry gun, though, as a holster should cover the trigger and you finger shouldn't be there unless you mean it.

3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?

See #2.
Reason: time.

To those with DA/SA and carry with the safety off: Is that safe? Is the gun drop safe? What about a snagged hammer dropping on the firing pin?

Its a position thing very easy to tell and very much a safe item...
If you don't know where the trigger is how do you know it will shoot?

I carry either a Glock 27 or 23, one in the chamber and it desn't come with a safety.
Oh yes it does...You touch the trigger not the safety...

I've just gotta say that I don't think that touching the trigger of your glock is a very good way to be sure it's not cocked.

Experience and training is the key here...Thousands of handling hours

:uhoh:

This is simple:
1911 condition "zero" Round in the chamber, hammer cocked safety off. Just like a glock.
Bersa .380 Da/Sa
Round in the chamber, decocked for DA and safety off.
I'm a lefty and hate safety's.
