When I first started carrying my Glock 19 and Kahr PM9 (neither have a manual safety device), I was terrified of ADs. Every time I sat down I'd internally flinch, expecting the gun to go off (this was particularly true when I carried in a SmartCarry). I carried with the pipe empty for a while to satisfy myself the trigger won't magically pull itself, and now I'm over it.

Still, I see the appeal of either manual safety devices or grip safeties. It would've made me less anxious when I first started out.

Typically, I carry a K9 with a round chambered. No external safety to worry about. Pull the trigger, it goes bang. I've never had any cause for concern with this pistol. Lately though, I've been carrying a Ruger LCP and I can't bring myself to carry with a round chambered. I guess I don't trust it yet. Any opinions as to whether or not this pistol is safe to carry with one in the pipe and the best method for doing so would be welcome. And I'll save you the time, yes, I know many will say it's not safe to carry without a round in the chamber.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Yes -- that's the way 1911s are designed to be carried.

I carry a Glock with one in the chamber... no manual safety. If I carried a 1911, I would keep one in the chamber, locked/loaded with the safety on.

I always recommend keeping one in the chamber for a great number of reasons. It is safe for most modern firearms as long as you do your part to be safe.

[1. Do you carry with a round chambered?
2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?
Reasons? /QUOTE]

Always.
NO only Glock 19.
No, Glock only.

Same holster, same position.

I always carry with one in the pipe, because life isn't a movie set where I have time to rack the slide.

from one LT to another :)..........

1. yes
2. yes
3. on

why....

1. one hand may be all you have to work with
2. Yes...I cary the older DAO Mil. Pro. (want to trade?)
3. I can sweep the safety so easilly when drawing, I feel the added safety is well worth the cost.

OBTW....I always refer to the new Taurus trigger as a SA/DA, as the double strike trigger pull is DA.

Opinion/rationale: A proper holster and proper handling negates the need for a manual safety, for guns with Glock style striker fire systems or even DA/SA's with decocker or DAO's; SA's which are carried uncocked are safe, assuming the proper internals are there on the sidearm to prevent drop/impact-based negligent discharges.

Opinion/preachy-ness: Know the gun (read the manual always; even old design-based guns get internal upgrades that can change how one should/could handle it), and assume its loaded at all times. Safety is in the hands and the head, not just in mechanics in and on a gun.

I have all my fingers and toes (and the rest of me intact), which is the extent of my basis for squawking about anything - YMMV

Yeah, that's my sentiments towards my Mil-Pro(SA/DA). The safety is so darn easy to manipulate that it really is worth the added "peace of mind".

I really feel for ya' on the DAO. The new ones are are only $300 and you could trade up for one, I bet. Once you find, practice and get used to where the trigger breaks, the SA Mil-Pro rocks. IMHO, Taurus really out did themselves with this line. Most shops can't keep em in stock and the transferable lifetime warranty is a superb added bonus to the cost of the gun NIB.

Not one single gun related failure by my Mil-Pro .40S&W. Over 2,000 rnds and counting as well as my CCW.

2. Do you carry a gun with a manual safety?
3. Do you carry with the manual safety on or off?
Reasons?

1) Yes, regardless of which one I carry. 1911 stays condition one. Sig has one up the pipe with the hammer down.
2) Yes/no. Sig has no manual safety.
3) When I carry my 1911, safety stays on.

I always carry with one in the pipe, because life isn't a movie set where I have time to rack the slide.

Part of training to clear a stove pipe or mal function rack and roll...No biggie...

Regards;)

1. Round chambered?
Yes of course.

2. Manual safety?

No manual safety on my XD, no need for one.

3. Manual safety on or off?
If I had one of the new XDs with the safety I wouldn't use it. Though it would be tempting to get the trigger pull weight dropped down considerably and then use the manual safety.
