Popularity of Remington 700?

If you have an occasion to return to Germany, see if you can get a single or double set trigger for the 700, it will make a nice addition. They do not sell them in the US due to liability, but you might be able to get one on a pick up from a gun shop if you order It beforehand. I have a couple of Kipplinger single set triggers on my 700s but they are out of business now.

Now I feel like I overpaid for my 700 in .223, got it a few weeks back for $199 with the no name scope. But when I went back to pick it up (they had a 5 day wait period regardless of CCW) everything was gone so I guess I just have to be happy that I got one at all. Still awesome deal for $99, I was really hoping to find one of the savages still in stock because they have a $50 rebate right now. So you could almost get one for free.

I was noticing one thing on my new 700, the LOP seems to be 13.25 instead of the more typical 13.75? When I swapped out scopes on it I pushed the new (Nikon) scope a little forward. Thing has a 26 inch long barrel, why the short butt stock? I had it and my Kimber out and when I went to pick the Kimber up I nearly threw it through the ceiling! The Kimber, aside from the LOP, is tiny (and light) compared to this artillery piece .

Kinda weird but not a huge deal, I am not a big guy so I can live with it. Most likely I will eventually find an old take off wood stock or something like that for this rifle because it is really nice and I just have a feeling looking down that bright and shiny bore with a recessed crown, it is going to shoot plenty fine.

I've never owned a Remington 700 until last year, but I've read about them forever. Never read anything bad about them either. Well, I got one now, and it's a good rifle. All the machining looks good, the bolt runs very smooth, the trigger is as good as the Timney in my Mauser. I got nothing to complain about. I'd like to find one of those bargain Walmart 700s. I'd get another...
