In my neck o the woods the powder and primer prices are going up considerably. The local S/W and Academy prices are $10.00+ higher .($45.00 to $50.00 a LB. and primers $2 to $3.00 more per 100 Is this just here or all over.

50 a pound is vhit prices for 1 and 300 series. Imr is 75 a pound when I quit looking because it's not worth 50 percent more.... I feel shifting your buying habits to support companies not shooting prices to the moon is the best message. I don't feel like vhit is any lesser quality so I'm not downgrading, just making a difference choice.

Not everywhere, I just made a deal today with my local shop for 32lbs N110, $32.50/lb on a cash deal.

Last week a guy posted 5k Rem 2-1/2 LP for $295 at my range, I nabbed those up too.
You shoulda been around when my father in laws components and gear went up for sale at his old club. People were bidding each other up to get his widow more money. It was still a bargain bonanza with his unopened 8lb’r of W296 going for $125.

I thought about asking for first dibs but I’m set for life. Better the proceeds to go to my mother in law.

Noticed the same thing about Vihtavuori powders. They've stayed pretty consistent on price while Hodgdon/IMR (and the other brands they've bought up) are increasing prices steadily. "$100/lb here we come".......

"$100/lb here we come".......

maybe on few select extruded powders but I’m not sold that all will be in that range. The reloading market would collapse on itself with that kind of price. People would quit stockpiling and shooting and in turn quit buying more powder to the point they manufacturers wouldn’t be able to stay open.

I can probably get buy on what little selection I have on hand. I about choked on my coffee the other morning when I saw what SW Precision Rifle was going for. I had second and third thoughts about getting an 8# at just over $250, now, AIN'T no way.

I would b very tempted to throw down on an 8 of H4895 but it would have to be in the mid to low 300's at most. I have a CU savings account that gets a pinch every payday just for stupid decisions..luckily they are few and far between so it builds up nicely between them.

WhiIe I was being somewhat sarcastic with that statement, the executive decision makers at Hodgdon headquarters are like........

How else are they going to pay for RCBS?

I don't believe that for a second.

As luck would have it I purchased 8 kegs of propellant and15K assorted primers the August before Covid happened. Have not had to purchase anything other than bullets since. Can't believe I timed that as well as I did. Looks like I might be at least a couple more years before any purchases. Can't believe what prices have done, its crazy.
Still trying to figure if I should restock now or wait and see if prices are lower in a years time.

I am in the same boat as most here. I can shoot for years on what I have although I have started shooting more .22 LR and less centerfire shooting. It's much less fill the mag up and shoot these targets as fast as possible more double taps and working on specific things. As far as components go I am buying a little here and there to maintain my stock but there's no stocking up for now.

I also happened to stock up on components in early 2020, just as covid was coming out and before lockdowns and stupidity. Unfortunately, I didn't stock quite as well as you. I've had to re-up on primers (though my stock did get me past that $160 per 1k nonsense) and some powder. I'm near to my last pound of 4064 (my do-all for milsurp rifles the past 7 or 8 years). I'm nearly out of some projectiles. Sigh... and I just don't think I can bring myself to pay $60 per can of 4064. Currently looking at some of the offerings from accurate as they have some that are less expensive. Aren't Alliant, Lovex, and Vit about the only powders left that's not under Hodgdons umbrella now? Competition is good for a market.

A big factor in current powder prices is the global shortage of nitrocellulose, the key ingredient in smokeless powder. China and Russia were the two biggest global producers of nitrocellulose. Obviously Russia is out of the picture and China has constrained exports to US and NATO.

If you think $60/lb is bad now, just wait and see how much if may go up towards the end of the year. It could make you wish you could buy powder for that ridiculous price.
Ecery election cycle prices increase, stock is hard to get, and we all regret not buying more when it was more available and cheaper.
I almost bought a pound of varget recently for $70 and just couldn’t do it. I barely passed on an #8 jug of stabill match for $389, and I’ll probably regret both in the not too distant future. I’ve always kept 5-6 years of components on hand, but 2 years ago somehow decided to get back into rifle again(223) and the 500 rounds/year I had stocked for with one rifle has been a huge oopsy on my part now that I picked up a bolt, a plain AR, a DMR, and am building another for my youngest and recently built my oldest one.
My needs for SRP and appropriate powders went from 500/yr to 10x that and I’m paying for it. I’m used to $23-25/lb of powder and 23.99/1000 primers. Im disabled now and factory is just not a real opt for us, and I reload everything else already. There will come a time that $389 jug of powder will be remembered as cheap. :(

I say get used to it. It's the "new normal". Get used to paying a $25.00 hazmat plus shipping as well, because most of the local stores don't have what you want or need. Put items on your "notify me" list and be ready to pounce with the Plastic Fantastic when they do because they'll be sold out tomorrow. "That's just the way it is", said Bruce Hornsby, and he was right.
